Swarthmore's Philbin, Haverford's Newman Earn Weekly Honors

Offensive Player of the Week

McCleary Philbin, Sr, Swarthmore

McCleary Philbin had a career week with a combined seven points on three goals and one assist while leading the Garnet to a pair of convincing conference victories over Bryn Mawr and Washington College. The senior, who entered the week with just two points and one goal this season, recorded two goals in a 3-0 win over Bryn Mawr as well as a goal and an assist in a 6-0 triumph over Washington College. The senior also entered the week with just four career points on two career goals before exploding offensively in victories over the Owls and Shorewomen.

Defensive Player of the Week

Elizabeth Newman, Sr, Haverford

The senior defender helped limit visiting Ursinus to just three shots in the Fords' 3-0 victory Saturday afternoon. Newman was also in the right place at the right time shortly before halftime against the Bears as her header in the 37th minute was the game's first goal and proved to be the game-winner, her first of the season and just the third game-winning tally of her career.

Notebook:

Johns Hopkins junior Sydney Teng scored the game winning goal for Hopkins in 3-0 victory over Franklin & Marshall last weekend to help Hopkins finish undefeated in the Centennial Conference regular season. Junior Kylie Fuller anchored a defense that posted a shutout. The defense allowed only one shot to Franklin & Marshall and extended scoreless streak for opponents to four games.

McDaniel senior Julia Pope recorded a goal and an assist in a 2-1 win over Dickinson on Saturday to catapult McDaniel into CC playoffs for first time in program history. Senior Sam Wilson led Green Terror defense that allowed just two goals in a 2-0 week.

Sophomore Amanda Bosworth anchored a Garnet defense that registered two shutout victories over Bryn Mawr and Washington College and only yielded a combined 10 shots, including six on target, over the two matches. The sophomore, who has recently moved to the center back position of the defense after playing most of the season up front, led a Swarthmore back line that only allowed two shots, including one on target, in a 6-0 win over Washington College after giving up eight shot attempts in a 3-0 victory against Bryn Mawr.
