BALTIMORE, MD - For the seventh straight season the Johns Hopkins women's soccer team will advance to the Sweet Sixteen of the NCAA Championships after defeating SUNY Geneseo 3-1 in less than ideal weather conditions.

Through a slight wind and fairly heavy rain, the Blue Jays got the scoring started early in the 18th minute, as Bailey Monaco took a cross from Allie Baker and volleyed the ball into the back of the net. For Monaco, the goal was her second of the season.

The Blue Jays controlled play for the duration of the first half, outshooting the Knights 8-2.

Coming out of the half, Alaina Arthur struck quickly for the Jays, adding their second tally in the 52nd minute. Following a Baker cross that was punched out by Geneseo goalkeeper Allison Stamp, Arthur corralled the ball at the penalty spot and blasted a shot into the right side of the net.

After numerous chances came up short, Hannah Kronick finally added to the fun, notching her 17th goal of the season, flicking a shot from six yards past the goalkeeper.

Geneseo showed signs of life late, as Erin Froelich took a pass from Laurie Knapp and booted a high shot, just over Clara Aranguren's outstretched arm. The goal was Froelich's second of the season.

The Jays will next play in the round of 16 against Carnegie Mellon.
