- Skyler Rolstad of NCAA.com writes that Williams gained a measure of revenge against Johns Hopkins in its 1-0 semifinal win over the Blue Jays.
KANSAS CITY, MO - Chances were aplenty for the Johns Hopkins women's soccer team, but the goals didn't come, and the Jays fell to the Williams College Ephs, 1-0, in the national semifinal on Friday night at Swope Soccer Village. Hopkins ends its season with a 19-4-2 record, and the senior class will graduate with a 79-12-4 record.
Perhaps the best chance for Hopkins came on a Hannah Kronick shot from the top-left portion of the 18, 23 minutes into play. The shot hit the crossbar and the Jays could not knock the rebound into the back of the net. That play seemed to epitomize the evening for the Blue Jays.
Hopkins had chances early, but was unable to make them count. Early in the first half Ana Bengoechea got past her defender, but was unable to corral a through ball and resulted in a goal kick for the Ephs. Just minutes later a cross by Hope Lundberg sailed over the head of the intended Bailey Monaco, rolling out of play.
After intermission, the Jays really pushed the pace and attacked hard. Coming right out of the half, Alaina Arthur sent a ball down the right sideline but it was too far for Bailey Monaco. Moments later, Monaco's pass to Kronick in the middle of the box was flicked away by an Ephs defender.
Kronick had another crack at the goal, as she took a shot from the top of the box that was saved by Ephs goalkeeper Hannah Van Wetter.
On the other end, Clara Aranguren made a fabulous save to keep the score at 1-0. Coming out near the penalty spot, an off balance Aranguren reached out with her right leg to stop a shot Thomas.
