2014 Centennial Conference Women's Soccer Guide

Preseason Coaches Poll  |  Record Book  |  Series Records

Bryn Mawr
(2-15 in 2013, 0-10 CC, 11th place)
Head Coach: Erin DeMarco (Ithaca '01), 9th season
Team Page | Roster | Schedule | 2013 Statistics | Season Preview (8/26)
All-Time Record: 147-324-31

Key Returnees: Marian Slocum, Sr, D, 2-0-4; Allegra Levy, Jr, M, 1-0-2; Hannah Broderick, Jr, M, 0-1-1.
Key Losses: Karina Su, B, Honorable Mention All-CC.
Preseason Poll Projection: 11th
Outlook: The Owls struggled in Conference play last season but hope that the experience gained will make a difference in 2014. Slocum, Levy, and Broderick all return this season to lead the defense and midfield. If Bryn Mawr is able to have some young players step-up on the offensive side of the field, the Owls should be much improved in 2014.

Dickinson
(10-6-2 in 2013, 4-4-2 CC, 6th place)
Head Coach: Kelly Tyrrell (Colgate '00), 7th season
Team Page | Roster | Schedule | 2013 Statistics | Season Preview (9/2)
All-Time Record: 271-234-38

Key Returnees: Hannah Matlack, Jr, B, 0-2-2, 1st team All-CC; Jenna Lamb, Jr, F, 9-2-20; Erin Sutphen, Jr, 2-5-9; Cate Maugle, Sr, 0-2-2; Charlotte Armour, Jr, GK, 74.3 sv%; Michaela Donohue, Sr, D.
Key Losses:  Rosalin Savoie, F, 7-3-17, 2nd team All-CC; Olivia Licata, F, 4-1-9.
Preseason Poll Projection: T-4th
Outlook: Dickinson has narrowly missed the playoffs three years in a row and hopes to change that in 2014. The Red Devils return All-CC first team selection, junior defender Hannah Matlack, and leading point scorer, junior forward Jenn Lamb. Junior goalkeeper Charlotte Armour will return between the pipes, with a large number of returning backs leading the defensive effort. Dickinson is determined to capture a playoff spot in 2014.

Franklin & Marshall (5-9-3 in 2013, 3-5-2 CC, 8th)
Head Coach: Bill Esterly (Alfred '93), 4th season
Team Page | Roster | Schedule | 2013 Statistics | Season Preview (8/28)
All-Time Record: 278-242-39

Key Returnees:  Nicole Rynecki, Sr, M, 7-0-14, Honorable Mention All-CC; Megan Rubenstein, Sr, B; Spencer Plante, Sr, M, 3-1-7; Brianna Reid, Sr, B; Alea Yarish, Sr, F, 1-1-3.

Preseason Poll Projection: 8th
Outlook: 2014 looks to be a rebuilding year for the Diplomats, as they graduated All-CC first team selection, goalkeeper Amanda McGowan, and All-CC Honorable Mention selection, defender Stephanie Bartner. However, Franklin & Marshall does return leading point scorer and All-CC Honorable Mention selection, senior Nicole Rynecki, to lead the offensive charge. Finding a replacement in goal and another strong defender could make the difference for Franklin & Marshall's playoff hopes this fall.

Preseason Poll Projection: 3rd
Outlook: Gettysburg was ousted in the CC semifinals a year ago but welcomes back a host of offensive talent, including top goal scorers Ferguson, Phillips and Behan. Gray returns for the Bullets in goal and has proved to be one of the strongest goaltenders in the league, recording a 87.5 save percentage and 9 shutouts last season. In front of Gray, Castranova will return for her senior year on the back line. A return to the Conference final four is not out of the question but the Bullets want more in 2014.

Friedman will lead the offensive efforts, while All-CC Honorable Mention selection, Chernow, returns between the pipes for her senior year. Haverford should be in the playoff hunt once again.

Outlook: Last fall, the Blue Jays returned to their championship-winning ways after being defeated in the 2012 CC title game. Johns Hopkins captured its 11th conference title and advacned to the NCAA Quarterfinals for the fourth time in five years. Kronick returns for her senior year after leading the conference in scoring last season; she is also the two-time conference Player of the Year. Nagourney, Johnson and Touloumes and will lead the defense, which will play in front of a first-time starter in goal. Bengoechea, 2013 CC Rookie of the Year, and Van De Loo, return in the middle. The Blue Jays' hopes for back-to-back championships rest on replacing several top goal-scorers from last season.

The Green Terror return their top three goal-scorers from last season in Hill, Pope and Quinn, while Jacobs returns in goal with one year of experience under her belt. Hart and Allen-Gorman will lead the defensive efforts in front of Jacobs. McDaniel can never be counted out and will make some noise this fall.

Bachmanhuff and Tierney both earned honorable mention All-CC last season and will lead the defensive effort in front of junior goalkeeper, Magier. The Garnet's experience should position them well to return to the posteason this fall.

Outlook: The Bears were 5-3 in non-Centennial games last fall, but 3-6-1 inside the Conference. The Bears will need to find an offensive replacement for Good, but does return two offensive seniors in Achiaw and Bedrock. The defense will be lead by Koser, while the goalkeeping job will be won in preseason. Finding a replacement in goal and another goal scorer could make the difference for Ursinus' playoffs hopes this fall.

Patinella will be counted on to lead the offense this year, while Byrnes will control the middle. Matteson, Cahoon and McCurdy will be expected to lead the defense this year. A playoff spot is not out of the question for the Shorewomen, but the team must come together quickly with Smith's new system.
