• The Short Story: Freshman Maggie Coulson scored a pair of second-half goals and Johns Hopkins outscored host McDaniel 3-1 over the final 45 minutes after a scoreless opening half as the second-seeded Blue Jays knocked off host and top-seeded McDaniel, 3-1, to claim the 2016 Centennial Conference Women’s Soccer Championship.
How it Happened
• After just over 46 minutes of scoreless action, Johns Hopkins grabbed a 1-0 lead in the 47th minute on a goal by Coulson. Coulson drove a ball towards the goal from 25 yards out that floated high on McDaniel goalie Sarah McDonald. McDonald went high to try and punch it over the bar, but it hit the underside of the cross bar and went over the line to give the Blue Jays a lead they would never relinquish.
• It took less than four minutes for the Blue Jays to double their lead as senior Meg Van de Loo collected a loose ball off a McDaniel goal kick and dribbled to the top of the box; from there she ripped a shot to the far post to give Hopkins the two-goal lead.
• Coulson needed just eight more minutes to extend the lead to 3-0. A deflected shot by sophomore Kristen Hori rebounded right to Coulson, who had time and room from 20 yards out to rip one to the corner.
• McDaniel made things interesting for the final 20 minutes as the Green Terror got their lone goal in the 69th minute when freshman Allie Titus slipped one home from seven yards out off an assist from senior Nicole Hill. The Terror pressured over the final 20 minutes, but couldn’t cut farther into the deficit as the Blue Jay defense held firm.

• Playing with the wind at its back, McDaniel held a 6-3 advantage in shots after 45 minutes, but couldn’t solve Hopkins goalie Clara Aranguren, who notched a pair of first-half saves to keep the game scoreless and set the stage for Coulson and Van de Loo to deliver the decisive scoring in the second half.

• Coulson was named the Tournament MVP after scoring her two goals in the title game. She entered today's game with three goals and two assists on the year.
• Van de Loo scored a goal for the 14th straight match, increasing her season total to a career-high 20 goals. Her 14-game goal-scoring streak is tied for the third longest in Division III women’s soccer history and is the longest by a Division III player since 2002.
• Shots were even at 9-9 with both teams holding a 6-3 advantage in the half when playing with the wind at their back. Aranguren posted four saves for the Blue Jays, while McDonald had one for McDaniel.
