The Ursinus College women's swimming team started the 2012-13
season with a 113-92 win over Dickinson Saturday afternoon. Junior

Hamilton were double winners for the Bears. Lair Ferrari won
the 100 back and 200 IM, while Capodanno captured the 50 and 100
free and Hamilton the 100 fly and 500 free.
Gettysburg 145, Messiah 116
Gettysburg 154, Susquehanna 107
The Gettysburg College swimming teams
swept Messiah College and Susquehanna University in their season
opener Saturday afternoon at the Gettysburg College Bullets Pool
for a pair of non-conference victories. The women’s team
downed Messiah 145-116 and turned back Susquehanna 154-107.
Freshman Lea
Candelmo won the 200-freestyle (2:00.41) and anchored the
winning 200-free relay (1:43.99) that also included sophomore
Sasha
Hartnett, senior Deirdre
Purdy, and sophomore Ellie
Houser. In addition, Candelmo finished just 0.31 behind
the winner in the 500-free, clocking a 5:18.62. Freshman Emily
Schmitt led a 1-2 finish in the 100-breaststroke, winning
in 1:10.29.
Johns Hopkins 203, Franklin & Marshall

Franklin & Marshall's women's swimming team was dropped by
Johns Hopkins 203-59 on Saturday to open the 2012-13
season. The Diplomats secured one win in 14 events to open up
its season. F&M's record stands at 0-1 in the early
going, while the Blue Jays improve to 2-0. Katherine
Grant won the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 10.51.12 to
earn nine points for her squad.
McDaniel 181, Virginia Military

Mount St. Mary's 152, McDaniel 108
McDaniel won three individual events to forge a split in a
double-dual meet with a pair of Division I programs to open the
women's swimming season on Saturday. The Green Terror (1-1)
defeated Virginia Military Institute 181-57 while falling to host
Mount St. Mary's, 152-108. Abbie
Schickler (Montgomery Village, Md./Covenant Life) paced
McDaniel with wins in both the 100 and 200 breaststrokes, swimming
in a meters pool. Emma
Duesterhaus (Spartanburg, S.C./Spartanburg Day) added a win in
the 100 backstroke.
