• The Short Story: The Johns Hopkins women's tennis team knocked off previously unbeaten Rhode Island College, 6-0, in the first round of the NCAA Division III Tournament at MIT on Friday.
How it Happened
• Johns Hopkins grabbed a lightning-quick 3-0 lead by winning all three doubles matches with a pair of 8-0 wins at first and second and an 8-2 decision at third. Christina Huynh and Aya Igaki-Meader breezed to the 8-0 win at number one and were followed quickly off the court by the Blue Jays' number two team of Emily Javedan and Ali Bader, who also didn't drop a game. Celina Liu and Jessica Liang wrapped up doubles with an 8-2 win at third.
• Carrying the 3-0 lead into singles, the Blue Jays needed just two wins to clinch and advance and Bader moved them to match point with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Clara Siegmund at number three.
• With NCAA Tournament matches only to decision, the race was on to see who would provide the clincher and it was Huynh who finished it off. She topped Serena Bobola, 6-1, 6-0 at fourth to clinch the win.
What it Means
• Johns Hopkins is now 15-0 all-time in its opening match in the NCAA Tournament.
• The Blue Jays move into the second round of the tournament, where they are 13-1 all-time.
• Today's win improves JHU's all-time NCAA Tournament record to 23-15.

• The Blue Jays move into the second round of the tournament where they will take on the winner of the Williams-Colby-Sawyer match. A matchup with Williams would be the fourth all-time between the Blue Jays and Ephs in the NCAAs.
