LANCASTER, Pa. -- Johns Hopkins' Victoria Kadiri and Lauren Phillips collected top athlete awards while Swarthmore's Hannah Swale and the JHU coaching staff were also honored with major awards to lead the 2023 All-Centennial Women's Indoor Track & Field Team.
Kadiri, who earned Most Outstanding Field Performer accolades at the 2022 CC indoor meet, was named Field Athlete of the Year for the 2022-23 campaign. The junior standout and defending national champion in the long jump continued to add to her lengthy list of career accomplishments this winter. Kadiri owns top mark in Division III in the triple jump (12.38m), ranks second in the long jump (5.89m) and fourth in the pentathlon (3,491). Her triple jump mark of 12.38m from December 2 broke her own CC record that she set last season. She won four individual events at the CC championship (60m, 60h, triple jump, long jump) - two more than any other CC athlete - helping the Blue Jays to their 12th consecutive indoor crown. The 60m and triple jump marks set new championship meet records.
A year after claiming top rookie honors, Phillips was named Track Athlete of the Year following a record-breaking regular season. The JHU sophomore set five new conference records this winter in the 60, 200, 400, 500 and 4x400 relay. Her 4x400 (3:50.56; 10th), 60 (7.68; 17th) and 200 (25.10; 25th) times rank among the top-25 on the national performance list. At the CC championship, Phillips finished second in the 60, behind only Kadiri, and led off the championship record-breaking 4x400 relay (3:57.90) for the Blue Jays.
Swale was selected as Rookie of the Year for Swarthmore. The freshman scored 14 points for the Garnet at the CC championship, winning the pentathlon, taking fifth in the 60 hurdles and ninth in the high jump. Swale set a new Swarthmore school record in the pentathlon this season and ranks second in the conference in the pentathlon (2,905), behind only Kadiri, fourth in the high jump (1.58m), and fifth in the triple jump (10.62m).
The Johns Hopkins coaching staff was chosen as Coaching Staff of the Year in the inaugural year of the award. Previously labeled the Coach of the Year award, the Centennial re-named the award Coaching Staff of the Year for all sports in 2022-23. JHU head coach Bobby Van Allen and assistants Shedrick Elliott III, Maura Knestout, Alex Jebb, Jefferson Butler, and Vicki Pellicciotti helped guide the Blue Jays to the second-highest margin of victory in Centennial indoor history at the 2023 championship. It marks the fifth-straight women's indoor coaching honor for Van Allen and Hopkins.
