Head Coach Darwin Breaux

Breaux (West Chester ‘77) enters his 20th year as Dickinson’s head coach ... he is the winningest football coach in school history with a 117-77-1 career record … Breaux was named the AFCA South Region Coach of the Year in 1994 … he led the Red Devils to Conference titles in 1993, 1994, 2004 and 2006.

Junior Todd Smolinsky and sophomore QB Cole Ahnell return under center ... Smolinsky completed 58 percent of his passes last season with four TDs, while Ahnell  completed 60 percent of his passes for 652 yards and four TDs as a rookie, while running for 263 yards and another score ... Ahnell took over the starting role in game five last season and led the Devils to three of their four 2011 victories ... Kyle Smith leads the ground game ... he averaged 5.0 yards per carry last fall, rushing for 307 yards and a pair of TDs ... Smith had a 115-yard effort in the win vs. Gettysburg ... FB Mike Capone led the Devils with three rushing touchdowns ... WR Eric Ondo leads all returning receivers after grabbing 12 balls last season ... senior Marc Baumann and sophomore Dan Faust headline the interior line ... Dickinson was third in the Centennial a year ago in rushing offense (163.9 ypg) and were third in sacks allowed (18).

The Red Devils return seven starters from a unit that allowed 371.1 yards and 23.6 points per game last season ... junior LB Mike Miller, an honorable mention All-CC pick in 2011, is the leading returning tackler after registering 86 stops, including 5.5 for loss, a year ago ... senior Jon Umanzor and junior Shane Mitchell join Miller on the linebacking corps ... sophomore Ray Durkin will also see action ... he had 27 tackles and two sacks in just four contests due to injury ... senior Schuyler Simpson heads the interior line ... he had 38 tackles and 2.5 sacks last fall ... junior Walker Moriarty had a team-high four sacks ... soph Mitch Helmandollar heads a balanced group of returnees in the secondary ... he was second on the team with four interceptions to go along with 28 tackles ... senior Marek Laco made 38 stops, while classmate Pat McBreen recorded 31 tackles ... soph Connor Thompson had 44 stops and 5.5 for loss as a rookie, while classmate Robert Spriggs had a pair of picks.

Special Teams Preview

The graduation loss of David London means the punting and place-kicking jobs are up for grabs in the preseason, as are the return duty responsibilities.

2012 Outlook

Dickinson is young on the offensive side of the ball and will have to rely on its defense to carry the load in the early portion of the season. It is a lot to ask of that unit and may prevent the Devils from making a serious run at the Conference crown this season.

 

Biddle Field (capacity 2,577) is home to the football field, outdoor track, tennis courts and areas for soccer, field hockey and lacrosse. In 2009, the field underwent an extensive renovation and now features an eco-friendly lighting system, synthetic turf used by many professional sports teams and Division I colleges, new fencing and an eight-lane track that conforms to NCAA standards for competition.
