Muhlenberg College Mules

Head Coach Scott McClary

Scott McClary (Muhlenberg '94) returned to his alma mater in 2009 as Muhlenberg’s 23rd head men’s basketball coach. In his first three seasons, he has led the Mules to a 44-35 record and their first appearance in the Centennial Conference championship game since 2001. McClary inherited a senior-laden team and led it to a CC playoff berth and the program’s first postseason road win in nine years in 2009-10. With a younger team in 2010-11, the Mules finished 13-12 in a campaign. In 2011-12, Muhlenberg finished 18-9 for its most wins in 10 years, came within one win of an NCAA Tournament bid and won two regular-season tournament championships.

2013 Outlook

The Mules reached the Conference final a year ago and with four starters returning to the fold are positioned to make another run at the Centennial crown. The backcourt is led by a dynamic duo in Killing and Curry. Killing had an outstanding rookie campaign, averaging 16.6 points per game, while Curry added a potent outside threat, draining 58 threes on his way to an 11.4 ppg average. Replacing three-time first-team All-CC forward Spencer Liddic won't be easy, but with the return of Dean and Hargove, the frontcourt won't be lacking. Dean averaged 9.2 points and 4.6 reounds, while Hargrove contributed 6.6 points, 6.2 rebounds along with 42 blocked shots. Mercer and O'Hara provide quality depth in the backcourt, while Forsman adds beef up front. McClary has his squad knocking on the Conference title door and this may be the year to knock that door down.

On Saturday, February 6, 1954, the dream of each Muhlenberg alumnus was realized when Memorial Hall, the new physical education building, was dedicated in a brief program. With a built-in seating capacity of 3,529, Memorial Hall fosters a big-game atmosphere hard to match in Division III. Although it is more than 50 years old, Memorial Hall remains a thoroughly modern facility. Recent improvements have included the addition of an overhead scoreboard and the 2004 repainting of the floor. A new lighting system was installed in 2010, and the walls and bleachers were painted in 2011, giving Memorial Hall a brighter look.
