2017 Men's Lacrosse Preview

Preseason Coaches Poll | Record Book

Dylan Maher, Junior, Dickinson

Dickinson (8-7 in 2016, 3-5 CC, T-5th place)
Head Coach: Dave Webster (Dickinson '88), 16th season at Dickinson (153-84)
Team Page | Roster | Schedule | Last Year's Statistics
All-Time Record: 277-435-2 (.389) since 1952
Centennial Titles (3): 2011-12-13
Playoff Appearances (10): 2004-05-06-07-10-11-12-13-14-15
Preseason Poll Projection: 4th

Key Returnees: Dylan Maher, Jr, M, 24-4-28, HM All-CC; Ryan Campbell, Jr, F/O, 62.5%; Andy Grabis, Sr, D, 15 CT; Tucker Carney, Jr, A, 13-9-22; Jack Doran, So, D; Patrick Finneran, Jr, D, 0-1-1, 11 CT; Tyler Llewellyn, Sr, A, 15-4-19; John Lockwood, So, A, 16-15-31.
Key Losses: Chris Menard, M, 32-13-45, 10 CT, 1st Team All-CC; Graham Parsons, LSM, 21 CT, HM All-CC; Nick Baxter, GK, 59.3 SV%, 7.70 GAA, HM All-CC; Rob Kendall, A, 24-12-36.
Top Newcomers: Nick Goles, A, Monkton, Md./Loyola Blakefield; Steve Ganelin, M/F, Carlsbad, Calif./Carlsbad; Rocco Casaceli, D, Longmeadow, Mass./Longmeadow.

Outlook: Dickinson fell short of the playoffs last season for the first time in six seasons so they will be hungry to get back in to the postseason in 2017. Maher returns after a stellar sophomore year to lead the Red Devils in the middle, while Carney, Llewellyn and Lockwood are key returnees on the attack. Defensively, Dickinson will need to find a replacement in the goal but will have Gravis, Doran, and Finneran to help out on the backline. Campbell returns to the lineup this season to handle face-offs. If the Red Devils can find some scorers to step-up this season, they should find themselves in the playoffs again.

Sean Rogers, Junior, Franklin & Marshall

Franklin & Marshall (12-5 in 2016, 6-2 CC, lost to Ursinus in CC semifinal)
Head Coach: Todd Cavallaro (Johns Hopkins '94), 10th season (78-58)

Key Returnees: Sean Rogers, Jr, A, 35-35-70, 1st Team All-CC; Mike Wasik, Jr, M, 24-3-27, HM All-CC; Read Ziegler, Jr, DM, 4-3-7, HM All-CC; Anthony Dougherty, Sr, D, 1-1-2, 32 CT; Mike Rama, Sr, A, 27-10-37; Nick Zenobio, Sr, D, 20 CT; Thomas Moore, Jr, GK, 47.4 SV%, 9.21 GAA; Tommy O'Connor, So, M, 27 CT.
Key Losses: Mike Bossidy, A, 34-8-42, HM All-CC; Wes Rhudy, LSM, 6-2-8, 28 CT; Mike Sanzone, F/O, 34.1%.
Top Newcomers: Jarrett Donaghy, M, West Chester, Pa./Malvern Prep; Kevin Mollihan, A, Ridgewood, N.J./Ridgewood; Andrew Fine, D, Villanova, Pa./The Haverford School.

Outlook: The Diplomats return a bulk of their starting line-up from last season and have high hopes for 2017. On the attack, Rogers, a first-team All-CC selection and the teams leading scorer from last season, will lead the offense. Ziegler, Dougherty and Zenobio will take care of the defense in front of returning goalkeeper, Moore. The midfield also looks strong with Wasik and O’Connor leading the way. The Diplomats are well positioned to contend for the title this season.

Chris Palladino, Senior, Gettysburg

Gettysburg (17-3 in 2016, 8-0 in CC, Centennial champs, national semifinalist)
Head Coach: Hank Janczyk (Hobart '76), 30th season at Gettysburg (378-109)
Team Page | Roster | Schedule | 2015 Statistics
All-Time Record: 505-250-1 (.669) since 1958
Centennial Titles (14): 1994-95-98-99-2000-01-02-04-05-06-07-08-09-15-16

Preseason Poll Projection: 1st

Key Returnees: Chris Palladino, Sr, LSM, 1-2-3, 40 CT, 1st Team All-CC; Tim Brady, Jr, GK, HM All-CC; Tommy Heller, So, A, 32-17-49; Blake Gray, So, A, 33-4-37; Reed Barbe, Sr, A, 11-15-26, HM All-CC Ryan Kelly, So, M, 1-0-1, 15 CT; Cullen Minion, Jr, D, 15 CT; Geoff Fulgione, Jr, F/O, 44.0%; Sam Runkel, Jr, M, 15 GB.

Newcomers: Jack Harvey, M, New Providence, N.J./New Providence; Mitch Wykoff, D, Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Ludlow.

Outlook: The Bullets won their 2nd straight Centennial title in 2016 and hope to make it three-straight this season. Gettysburg graduated several key players from last season, including the CC Offensive Player of the Year, Smith. However, Palladino returns for his senior campaign to lead the middle with 40 caused turnovers last season. Brady returns to tend the goal, while Heller, Gray and Barbe will lead the offense. Gettysburg’s playoff experience will prove helpful as they go for three straight in 2017.

Chase Williams, Senior, Haverford

Haverford (7-8 in 2016, 3-5 CC, T-5th place)
Head Coach: Brendan Dawson (Salisbury '04), 1st season

All-Time Record: 267-320-1 (.455) since 1972
Centennial Titles (1): 2010

Preseason Poll Projection: 7th

Key Returnees: Chandler Todd, Jr, D, 20 CT, 2nd Team All-CC; PJ Jackson, Sr, D, 17 CT, HM All-CC; Zack Cohen, So, M, 3-1-4; Max Ellis, Jr, M, 35 CT; Isaac Krier, Jr, A, 21-8-29; Mitch Hagan, Jr, M, 1-1-2; Chase Williams, Sr, A, 20-1-21; Stephen DeLeo, So, A, 11-4-15; Rob McLallen, So, M, 7-15-22; Garret Trucksess, So, A, 7-11-18.
Key Losses: Eric Caliendo, GK, 58.8 SV%, 7.01 GAA, 2nd Team All-CC; Brandon Smith, D, 15 CT; Tav Hafner, M, 19-4-23.
Top Newcomers: Noah Hollander, A, Roanoke, Va./Patrick Henry; Brendan Narko, D, Chicago, Ill./Saint Ignatius College Preparatory.

Outlook: The Fords begin a new era under Dawson and will challenge for a playoff berth this spring. Haverford returns Todd and Jackson to take charge on the defense, but will need to find a replacement in goal with the graduation of Caliendo. Krier, Williams and McLallen return as the top point scorers from last season to lead the offensive efforts. With the graduation of only three-starters from a season ago, the Fords are well positioned to make a return to the postseason in 2017.

Will Kroppe, Senior, McDaniel

McDaniel (3-12 in 2016, 1-7 CC, 8th place)
Head Coach: Keith Euker (Loyola '99), 2nd season (3-12)

Top Newcomers: Carson Marshall, A, Brookeville, Md./Glenelg; Sam Mutz, A, Swarthmore, Pa./Strath Haven.

Outlook: After one-year under a new system, the Green Terror should be improved in 2017. McDaniel returns two of the best defenders in the Conference in Kroppe and Breed, but will need to find a replacement in goal. Leading the offensive efforts will be seniors Becker, McNichol and Lykens. With a strong senior class returning, McDaniel should move up the Conference standings this season.

Brad D'Alessandro, Senior, Muhlenberg

Muhlenberg (3-13 in 2016, 0-8 CC, 9th place)

Top Newcomers:
Frankie Feaster, M, Washington Twp., N.J./Bergen Catholic; Declan Moylan, A, West Hartford, Conn./Loomis Chaffee; Jack Colt, A, Pottstown, Pa./Owen J. Roberts.

Outlook: The Mules look to improve in 2017 with a year of experience under their new coach. D’Alessandro and Del Moro return as the top point scorers from last season to lead the offensive efforts, while Bergenty will control the defense. Muhlenberg will need some of the first-years to step in and contribute right away if they want to climb the Conference standings this spring.

Cam Marsh, Junior, Swarthmore

Swarthmore (12-6 in 2016, 5-3 CC, lost in CC semifinal to Gettysburg)
Head Coach: Pat Gress (Towson '91), 22nd season (110-193)

Top Newcomers: Jack Belluche, D, Andover, Mass./Phillips Academy; Griffin Soriano, D, Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater Raritan.

Outlook: The Garnet made their first-ever playoff appearance last season and are well positioned to make another playoff run in 2017. Juniors Marsh and Johnson were two of the top point-scorers from last season, with over 40 points a piece, and return to lead the offensive efforts. Ryan and Vik will headline the defense, with Fox returning in goal. Losing only a few starters from last season, Swarthmore is a top-title contender this spring.

Gerard Brown, Junior, Ursinus

Ursinus (14-3 in 2016, 7-1 CC, lost to Gettysburg in CC final)
Head Coach: Jamie Steele (Gettysburg '94), 9th season (72-44)

Top Newcomers: Nolan Sachs, D, Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township; John Lyman, D, Folsom, Pa./Ridley.

Outlook: The Bears returned to the Conference final for the second year in a row last season and hope to make another title run in 2017. With DeSimone and Desenberg up front and Brown and Cioeta controlling the middle, offense should remain a strength of the Bears. Jones will be the leader on the defense, while Ursinus will look for someone to replace Neff in goal. This spring, the Bears will be in the title hunt again.

Tanner Barbieri, Junior, Washington College

Washington College (7-8 in 2016, 3-5 CC, T-5th place)
Head Coach: Jeff Shirk (Maryland '01), 7th season (60-40)

Top Newcomers: Casey Grieves, M, Easton, Md./Sts. Peter & Paul; Josh Huerbin, M/FO, Purcelville, Va./Loudoun Valley; Carson Metzker, M/FO, Fort Washington, Pa./Germantown Academy.

Outlook: Washington College missed the Centennial playoffs for the first-time in five seasons last year but look to return in 2017. Juniors Barbieri and Powers return as the leading point-scorers from last season to lead the attack, while Boyles will man the middle. The duo of Hickey and Wilson lead the defensive efforts. With the majority of the key players from last season returning, the Shoremen should be in the playoff hunt this spring.
