ROANOKE, Va. - The Centennial Conference crowned five champions and will be sending 14 wrestlers to nationals after the Division III East Regional, hosted by Ferrum College.

A total of four Ursinus College wrestlers will make the short trip to Hershey in two weeks after their performance at the NCAA East Regionals on Sunday in Virginia.

Sophomore 149 pounder Derek Arnold (Centreville, Va./Westfield), senior 157 pounder Richie Jasinski (Sellersville, Pa./Pennridge), senior 197 pounder Daniel Manganaro (Horseheads, N.Y./Horseheads) and sophomore 285 pounder. Sophomore Matan Peleg (Vadnais Heights, Minn./Mounds View) will represent the Bears at the NCAA Championships in two weeks.

Arnold and Jasinski both won their respective weight classes, while Manganaro was a runner-up. Peleg finished third in his weight class. Arnold was also named the Outstanding Wrestler in the East Region.

The New York University wrestling team had its best-ever finish at the NCAA Division III East Regional Championship on Sunday, March 1, in Roanoke, VA. In addition to the squad finishing the event in second place, NYU crowned two individual champions and will send four wrestlers to the upcoming NCAA Championships.,

Brandon Jones (141) and Patrick Sheehan (184) each won championships at their respective weight classes, while Jacob Donato (125) and Nathan Pike (133) each finished in second. All four will represent NYU on the national stage.

Ranked #22 by the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA), NYU amassed 122 total team points, only one point behind first-place Delaware Valley College.

Senior 165-pounder CJ Caserta won his weight class to highlight a strong performance at the NCAA East Regional for the Stevens Institute of Technology wrestling team.

Stevens placed third at the regional - which is the highest in program history - two weeks after winning the first Centennial Conference title in program history. Delaware Valley placed first with 123 points, New York University was second (122) and the Ducks compiled 100.5 points. Ursinis College and Wilkes University rounded out the top-five with in-state foes TCNJ finishing sixth and Centenary College tieing for 10th.

The one-day tournament decides what grapplers advance to nationals as the top-three in each weight class earn a trip to Hershey, Pa. in two weeks. Joining Caserta at the NCAA Division III Wrestling Championships will be senior heavyweight Chris Florek who placed second and senior 157-pounder Mike Polizzi who was third.

The career of the greatest wrestler in Johns Hopkins history hung in the balance. After three trips to the NCAA Tournament, a pair All-America finishes, three Centennial Conference titles and more than 125 victories, Blue Jay senior Paul Bewak found himself bumped to the consolation bracket at Sunday's NCAA Division III East Regional Championships.

Only the top three finishers in each weight class would qualify for the NCAA Division III Championships in Hershey, Pennsylvania. Pennsylvania - Bewak's home state, where he perfected the craft that has made him the most decorated wrestler in school history.

Bewak made sure his name would be among those slotted to participate at the NCAAs as he rebounded from his loss in the semifinals with a gutty 4-2 win over Chris Tan of Ursinus in the consolation semifinals and then jumped out to a 7-0 lead en route to a 10-2 victory over Rob Murray of Stevens in the third place match.
