2014 Outlook

Ursinus has never recorded six straight winning campaigns but that streak is in jeopardy in 2014 ... the Bears will put points on the board, but a young defensive front seven will need to come of age quickly to contend for a Conference championship.

Head Coach Peter Gallagher

Gallagher (West Virginia Wesleyan ‘93) enters his 14th season at the helm of the Bears with a 67-65 overall record … the 60 victories make him the winningest gridiron coach in program history … Gallagher led Ursinus to its first Centennial title since 1996 in four seasons ago.

Ursinus surrendered 127 points in its seven victories and 93 points in its three losses ... improving those numbers is the key to the 2014 season ... junior DE Steve Ambs was a second-team All-Centennial selection last season after recording a team-high 60 tackles, including 5.5 sacks ... sophomore Tim Rafter is the headliner on the linebacking corps ... he had 33 tackles, a sack and a pick as a rookie ... junior DBs Kyle Adkins and Dysean Alexander were both named second-team All-CC ... Adkins had 43 stops and two interceptions, while Alexander led UC with three picks ... seniors Matt Glowacki (42), Greg DiSanto (39) and Max DeNardo (33) combined for 114 tackles.

Patterson Field

The college was well known for many years for its Patterson Field endzone, in which a large sycamore tree grew undisturbed. Ripley's Believe it or Not featured the famous tree for being the only one on an active field of athletic play  and the seclusion "of the tree at night for generations afforded lovers a trysting place. A new sycamore, growing since 1984 from a seedling taken from the old tree, stood nearby until a recent turf field project required its removal.
