Men's Tennis Downs DeSales, 6-3

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – The Ursinus Men's Tennis team wrapped up its non-conference portion of its season with a 6-3 triumph over DeSales on Thursday afternoon.

 

 

With the win, the Bears improved to 9-7 overall and conclude a dominant non-conference schedule portion of their season at 7-2. Meanwhile, the Bulldogs of the MAC Freedom fell to 7-5 overall.

 

 

Ursinus won two of the three doubles matches and took a 2-1 lead in the early portion of the contest. Junior Noah Mandel and senior Simbarashe Kanjanda gained the first point for the Bears by cruising 8-1 at number three doubles over Brahm Buoy and Thomas Bloomquist. The sophomore duo of Lars Jespersen and Will Oberholtzer then followed with an 8-5 win at number one singles over Danny Lynn and Augie Citrone. Sophomores Rob Ritchie and Darby Rogers were edged 8-5 by Will Pollick and Philip Ritchie at the number two spot to close out doubles action.

 

 

Jespersen kicked off singles play with a convincing 6-1, 6-0 win over Lynn at number one singles and Oberholtzer took down Citrone 6-3, 6-0 at the number two position. Sophomore Ethan Yu sealed the match win for the Bears at number six singles by defeating Ethan McCombs 6-1, 6-1. DeSales earned back-to-back points when Phil Ritchie bested Rob Ritchie 6-1, 6-1 at number three singles and Pollick downed Mandel 3-6, 7-5, (10-7). Rogers closed out the match by earning a dramatic 6-3, 5-7 (10-6) win at number four singles.

 

The Bears return to action on Saturday, April 30th as they will close out their regular season by traveling to face Dickinson at 1 p.m.
