Bears Fall to Dickinson at Home

COLLEGEVILLVE, Pa – The Ursinus field hockey (9-4,4-2) team dropped a close one to Centennial Conference opponent Dickinson Saturday 2-0. After defeating Bryn Mawr Wednesday, the Bears were looking to carry the momentum into Saturday before the setback has them now sitting at 4th place in the conference.

With a 20-7 advantage in shots, Ursinus was unable to capitalize on their chances in front of the net. Dickinson jumped out early, with three seconds to go in the first quarter, the Red Devils were awarded a penalty corner where Hailey Womer, sent the ball to the top of the circle finding Hannah Spiri. Spiri returned the ball back to Womer who finished in front of the net.

The Bears began the second quarter putting pressure on Dickinson with two shots from Jordan Moore but were denied by the Red Devils defense. Dickinson would add to their lead when Hailey Womer found Hannah Spiri on another penalty corner, increasing the score to 2-0.

The Bears best chance came in the third quarter when Suzanna Toledo Cornman had a penalty stroke but was denied by Saige Stevens. Ursinus recorded a handful of opportunities but were unable to sneak one past Stevens in net. Jordan Ulsh recorded five saves for the Bears defense.

Ursinus will look to bounce back as they travel to play Swarthmore on Wednesday at 7:30PM.
