Women's Soccer Dropped at Montclair State

MONTCLAIR, N.J. – The Ursinus College women's soccer team got on the board in the final minute of Saturday's non-conference trip to Montclair State, but it was too little and too late as the hosts picked up a 3-1 victory.

The Red Hawks (3-1) limited the Bears to a single shot in the opening half and took a 1-0 lead into the break on Zoe Steck's 18th-minute marker.

Montclair State expanded its advantage with goals in the 72nd and 79th minutes, rendering moot a last-gasp goal by Kelly Gardus.

Makayla Heisler was the Bears' most active source of offense, posting three of the team's six shots and putting two of them on frame.

Gardus netted her first goal of the season – and the ninth of her career – with 29 seconds to play, when Allocco's corner fell right to her on the right side of the box and she easily booted it into an open net. Allocco's assist was her second of the year.

Mandy Carideo had two saves between the pipes for Ursinus.

The Bears are off until next Saturday, when they head to Gettysburg for their Centennial Conference opener.
