Women's Basketball Downs Bryn Mawr, 66-32

COLLEGEVILLE, PA. - The Ursinus Women's Basketball team put together a complete performance as they defeated Bryn Mawr 66-32 inside Helfferich Hall on Thursday evening.  

First-year forward Chinwe Irondi paced a red-hot Bears offense with her 7th career double-double tallying 18 points and 14 rebounds. Senior forward Gabby Downs registered 14 points and four rebounds. Alyssa Marin and Margett Brown each added 6 points as Martin went 2-2 from the three-point range.  

The Bears jumped out an early lead after Downs drained a three-pointer on their opening possession. After a steal and a layup from Natalie Mehl the Bears led 5-2 at the 8:40 mark. The Owls took the lead 7-6 after Hannah Binder connected on a jump shot with 6:05 remaining in the first period. After a steal from Downs, Kelly Grant found Brown under the basket to give Ursinus a one-point lead. Grant connected on a three-pointer, and the Bears finished the first period hitting three free throws to hold a 16-9 lead after one period.  

To start the second period both teams traded baskets, before Irondi collected an offensive rebound and a layup to give the Bears a 20-11 lead. Irondi scored the next seven points as the Bears defense held Bryn Mawr scoreless over the next five minutes and Ursinus led 27-11 with 2:44 remaining in the half. The Bears would close out the first half with a 6-2 run and lead 33-13 at halftime.  

The Bears connected on their first three possessions of the second half and stretched their lead to 24 points at the 8:02 mark. The Owls responded with points on back-to-back possessions and cut their deficit to 20 at the 6:47 mark. After Irondi collected two free throws from the charity stripe, she picked up a steal on the defensive end that led to a basket, stretching the Bears lead back to 24. The Owls closed the final five minutes of the quarter with a 7-4 run making the score 47-26 with ten minutes to play.  

To start the fourth quarter, the Bears opened on an 8-3 run over the first five minutes giving them a 55-29 lead. Later in the fourth, Alyssa Martin connected on two three-pointers and fellow teammate Erin Devine tallied one herself to give the Bears a 66-32 victory.   

The Bears will return to action on Saturday as they host Washington College for Senior Night inside Helfferich Hall at 3pm.
