AROUND THE CONFERENCE - Complete Release

Franklin & Marshall ended Johns Hopkins’ 27-game Conference unbeaten streak with a 3-2 triumph on a game-winning RBI single in the bottom of the seventh from J.T. Triantos (Vineland, NJ / Sacred Heart). It was the Jays’ first CC loss since April 18, 2009 and F&M’s first win vs. Hopkins since 2007.

Gettysburg sophomore LHP Ryan Taylor (Eldersburg, MD / Loyola Blakefield) threw his second straight gem, tossing a complete-game three-hitter with 10 strikeouts vs. Swarthmore. Over his last two outings, he has allowed just four hits in 18 innings with 22 K’s.

Washington College sophomore CF Sean Connole (Mt. Airy, MD / St. John’s Catholic) went 7-for-10 vs. Ursinus, including the game-winning walk-off RBI single in the nightcap. The hit enabled the Shoremen to register their first sweep of the Bears since 2001. Junior RHP Shane Mattingly (Ellicott City, MD / Centennial) tossed a three-hitter with nine strikeouts in the opener.

Rallies were the order of the day as Haverford defeated Swarthmore in 11 innings. Trailing 4-1 in the bottom of the sixth, the Fords’ Matt Liscovitz (Brunswick, ME / Brunswick) drilled a three-run homer to even the score. The Garnet’s Anthony Montalbano (Edison, NJ / John P. Stevens) homered in the seventh, but Haverford knotted the score again in the ninth on a Louis DeRosa (San Francisco, CA / Lick Wilmerding) RBI single. Swarthmore forged a 6-5 lead in the 11th on an RBI single from James Beall (New York, NY / The Collegiate School) before the Fords tallied twice in the bottom half of the frame on a Jake Chaplin (New York, NY / Fieldston School) RBI double and a passed ball that scored the winning run.

McDaniel freshman James Chiorello (East Windsor, NJ / Lawrenceville Prep) has made a name for himself in his debut. He has the second-highest batting average for the Terror at .373 with 15 RBI and leads the mound staff with a 0.00 ERA with a save in eight innings.

Muhlenberg sophomore Joseph Vila (Millington, NJ / Seton Hall Prep) became the first Mule to hit a home run in both ends of a doubleheaders since Pete Orr in 2005 in ‘Berg’s split with McDaniel. Ironically, Orr’s two round-trippers also came against the Green Terror. Senior RHP Jason Daniels (Delmar, NY / Bethlehem Central) has allowed only one earned run in 16 innings against Conference foes.
