Haverford 4-9, Johns Hopkins 3-7
Haverford College clinched at least the No. 2 seed in the upcoming Centennial Conference postseason baseball tournament by sweeping host Johns Hopkins University on Saturday, downing the Blue Jays 4-3 in the opener and then 9-7 in the nightcap. Haverford (21-17, 12-6 CC) is still in the hunt for the top seed but Hopkins (23-12-2, 12-4) needs to win only one of two against last-place Muhlenberg College (18-20, 2-14) on Sunday in Allentown, Pa., to clinch the top spot in the standings. Either way, the Fords know they will host an opening round game of the league's tournament which begins Friday, May 4. Saturday's opener was a battle of each team's staff aces, Tommy Bergjans for the Fords and Alex Eliopoulos for the Blue Jays. Bergjans earned the complete-game win limiting the Blue Jays to single runs in the fifth, sixth and eighth innings, otherwise scattering 10 hits and a walk while fanning six. Eliopoulos (7-1) suffered his first defeat of the season giving up all four of Haverford's runs off of 14 hits and a pair of walks. Game 2 was a high-scoring affair with the teams combining for 16 runs off of 26 hits, 16 from the Fords. Jeremy Zoll notched the game-winning RBI with his single to left that in the top of the eighth.

Washington College 6-5, Muhlenberg 1-3
Visiting Washington College swept a Centennial Conference baseball doubleheader from host Muhlenberg at Cedarcreek Field on Saturday afternoon by scores of 6-1 in game one and 5-3 in game two.  With the two wins and an 8-2 Gettysburg loss at Ursinus in game two of their doubleheader, the Shoremen are in the Centennial Conference Baseball Tournament for the second time in three years.  The Shoremen improve to 26-10 overall and 11-7 in the conference and have concluded their regular season, while the Mules drop to 18-20 and 2-14 respectively.  Washington, who made the playoffs in 2010, will find out what seed they are and what opponent they will play in the first round of the double elimination tournament by the end of tomorrow afternoon. WC senior pitcher Shane Mattingly (Ellicott City, MD/Centennial) was the story of game one as he went the distance and improves to 6-1 on the year.  He struck out 10 batters for the sixth time this season as he scatted five hits and gave up only one earned run. For the Shoremen in game two, John Rolewicz had a game-high three RBI and Ryan Normoyle scored a pair of runs as the team had just five hits. The Shoremen swept the Mules for the first time since 2007 (9-2 and 5-3) and the first sweep of Muhlenberg in Allentown since 1998.

Gettysburg 13-2, Ursinus 0-8
Gettysburg defeated host Ursinus College 13-0 in the opener, but the Bears turned the tables with an 8-2 victory in the nightcap of a crucial Centennial Conference doubleheader Saturday afternoon. Playing their final Centennial Conference games of the season, the Bullets (24-12, 10-8 CC) fell out of CC playoff contention. Gettysburg entered the day in a three-way tie with Dickinson College and Washington for third in the conference standings, and both Dickinson and Washington swept their doubleheaders. Junior Ryan Taylor fired a six-hit shutout in the opener while tying a career-high with 12 strikeouts. Sophomore Al Posch had a record-breaking day at the plate, going 6-for-10 with three runs and three RBIs while setting Gettysburg single-season marks for hits (59) and at-bats (156). The Bears got a complete game win from senior Steve Christakos in the second game, as he moved to 2-3 with a four-strikeout, two-walk performance.

McDaniel 3-7, Franklin & Marshall 0-1
McDaniel got complete-game efforts from both of its starting pitchers to key a doubleheader sweep of Franklin & Marshall in Centennial Conference (CC) baseball action on Saturday. James Chiorello (East Windsor, N.J./Lawrenceville Prep) twirled a three-hit, seven-strikeout game one and the Green Terror (22-10, 9-7 CC) plated three runs in the top of the ninth for the win. Zach Jones (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora) fanned nine, scattering seven hits, to key a 7-1 victory in the nightcap.Chiorello led the offense with three hits. With the sweep and an Ursinus 8-2 game-two victory over Gettysburg, McDaniel will qualify for the CC tournament for the first time since 2003 with a sweep of the Bears on Sunday. Will Theriault led the Diplomats (16-23, 5-13 CC) with three hits in the nightcap.

Dickinson 7-2, Swarthmore 1-0
The Dickinson College baseball team swept a Centennial Conference double-header on Saturday, posting a 7-1 win over Swarthmore in the opener, and 2-0 shutout in the nightcap. Tyler Rosa' went 3-for-5 in the opener while Garrett Horan went 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Ryan Kramer (New Vernon, N.J./Morristown Beard) earned the win on the mound, going seven innings, scattering four hits and striking out four as well. Senior Sean White (Summit, N.J./Salisbury School, CT) went the distance on the mound to win game two, 2-0. He improves to 7-1 on the season, allowing just five hits while recording nine strikeouts. That raises his school record for career strikeouts to 274. He also tied the school record with career win number 22, tying Bernie Keating (1938-41).
