Ryan Orgielewicz, Johns Hopkins
YORK, PA - For the seventh straight game the Jays put up a double-digit number in the hits column, this time it was a season single-game high of 22, which led to the 15 runs that tied a Hopkins NCAA Regional game record, en route to a 15-3 win over Catholic.
Brian Lin got the hit parade started for the Jays in the first with a one out single to left center. He would score one batter later as Colin McCarthy ripped an RBI double to the gap in left center, putting the Jays on the board quickly.
Craig Hoelzer followed with a single through the left side, pushing McCarthy to third. After Dan Albert popped out, Mike Smith took the first pitch he saw to the opposite field for a two-out RBI single.
Ryan Orgielewicz started off the second with an infield single before stealing second and scoring on a throwing error that came on a Brian Lin hit ball to third.
After a scorless third, the Jays were back at it in the fourth. Chris Casey reached base on a dropped third strike, and advanced to second on a dropped fly ball by the left fielder, which put Orgielewicz on first. Next up was Conor Reynolds, who would single Casey home and advance Orgielewicz to third. Lin would get Orgielewicz home with a sac-fly to left, making the Jays' lead 5-0.
Following their second scoreless inning of the game, Casey began the sixth with a double to left. Looking at 1-2 count, Orgielewicz turned on the ball and cranked it over the 38' "Arch Nemesis" wall in left field for the first home of the Mid-Atlantic Regional.
Thomas Mee and Reynolds recorded back-to-back outs before the Jays ripped off four consecutive singles, leading to two more runs in the inning.
Catholic would get their first run on the board in the bottom-half of the inning. A hit batsman started the inning, before two straight outs were recorded. A second hit batter put runners on first and second before Wyatt Schmidt drove in a run with a single through the right side.
With runners on the corners, Stefan Poggioli hit a slow roller to third and beat the throw, scoring Dan Hinchcliff for the Cardinals' second run of the day.
Hopkins added six more in the ninth as pinch-hitter Joe Conlon double to left before Pete Siciliano was hit by a pitch. The two advanced 90' after a passed ball, before Orgielewicz drove in Conlon with a single up the middle.
With runners on the corners, Alex Darwiche would bloop a single over the diving, outstretched arm of the Catholic second baseman, scoring Siciliano. Reynolds would single to load the bases, and, after a Lin flyout to short left, McCarthy would flair a single to right, scoring Orgielewicz for the Jays' 12th run of the game.
Craig Hoelzer would hit the 22nd hit of the game for the Jays with a two-RBI double to left center. With runners on second and third, Albert grounded out to second, scoring McCarthy.
Orgielewicz led the way for the Jays with three hits, three RBI and four runs scored, while Hoelzer and McCarthy combined for five RBI on seven hits.
Starter Carter Burns struck out five in a six inning shutout performance.
The Jays are back in action tomorrow as they play at 10 am against the loser of the PSU-Berks-Salisbury contest which is set to begin at 6:20 tonight.
