2021 CoSIDA Academic All-America Baseball Team

BALTIMORE, MD – Austin Sacks, a senior outfielder on the 2021 Johns Hopkins baseball team, has been named a Third Team CoSIDA Academic All-American it was announced today.  Sacks, who helped lead Johns Hopkins to the Division III World Series in 2021, graduated in May with a degree in public health and a 3.95 cumulative grade point average.

Sacks is the 30th Academic All-America selection in Johns Hopkins baseball history with 25 of the 30 playing under the guidance of current head coach Bob Babb.  Only legendary Wichita State head coach Gene Stephenson has coached more CoSIDA Academic All-Americans than Babb's 25.
Historically, the 30 overall selections are tied for the most among all collegiate baseball programs at any level.  Bucknell has also produced 30 baseball Academic All-Americans, while Notre Dame (29), Wichita State (27) and Illinois Wesleyan (25) round out the top five.

Sacks hit .329 as a senior and tied for the team-lead with eight doubles and 19 RBIs.  A three-time Centennial Academic Honor Roll selection, Sacks hit safely in all seven of the Blue Jays' games in the NCAA Regional and Division III World Series and ended his career with 77 hits, 10 doubles, seven home runs, 68 RBIs and 46 runs scored while starting 73 of the 81 games he played in.  Johns Hopkins played just 12 games in the COVID-shortened 2020 season and just 21 in 2021.

Sacks served as a finance intern with Davenport & Company in 2020 after previously interning with Partnership Wealth Management in 2019.  He also worked with the WeGo Foundation as a liaison and training coordinator during his time at Johns Hopkins.

To be eligible for CoSIDA Academic All-America honors, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.30 cumulative GPA, be a sophomore or above and a starter or significant reserve.  All-District Teams are first selected with individuals named to those teams going on the Academic All-America ballot.

Including Sacks, Johns Hopkins has now produced 10 CoSIDA Academic All-Americans for the 2020-21 academic year with the at-large (August 4) and track/cross country teams (August 10) still to be announced.  This is the sixth time in school history that Johns Hopkins has produced 10 or more Academic All-Americans in one year; the school record of 13 was set in 2013-14.
