Top seeds Swarthmore and Franklin & Marshall each secured Centennial Conference Tournament opening-round victories on their home fields on Thursday afternoon. Top-seeded Swarthmore defeated fourth-seeded Johns Hopkins 8-1, while second-seeded F&M came from behind to top third-seeded Washington College, 7-5.
Weather permitting, the double-elimination tournament is scheduled to continue Saturday at Swarthmore. Hopkins and Washington College are set to open with an elimination game at 9 a.m., followed by Swarthmore and F&M in the winner's bracket at 12:30 p.m.
SWARTHMORE, Pa. -- Austin Burgess led the way offensively with a pair of RBI doubles while a trio of Garnet pitchers allowed just one run to cross the plate as Swarthmore topped Johns Hopkins 8-1 in the first round of the Centennial tournament.

LANCASTER, Pa. -- Down 5-1, Patrick Cettina's pinch hit, two-run shot in the seventh inning kickstarted a Diplomat rally that eventually led to a 7-5 win over Washington in Centennial Conference Championship's first game. Second-seeded Franklin & Marshall (24-14) got the game winning base knock an inning later from Tommy Denlinger to secure the win over the third-seeded Shoremen (25-16).
