The Diplomats improved to 18-2 on the year, advancing to face off against No. 5 Ursinus on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. in Middlebury, Vt., while the Pride's season comes to a close at 5-14-2.
With the victory, F&M earned its first NCAA win since 2011, when the Diplomats downed Cortland State by a 3-0 score in the opening round. On Saturday, F&M is set to face off against its CC rival, the Bears, for the third time this season. The Diplomats will have revenge on their mind, after Ursinus earned a narrow 2-1 victory over F&M on Sunday to capture the CC Title.
Sydney Cole needed just 14 minutes to tally the eventual game winner, collecting a loose ball on the right of the cage and jamming it home for the 1-0 lead. Eight minutes later, Juliet Dalton lined up for a corner on the left side of the field and sent a pass over to Maria Guarisco at the top of the circle, who rocketed the shot past the Pride goalkeeper for a 2-0 advantage.
In the 25th minute, Tamara Mills continued the offensive assault, sending in a long shot from the right side that made its way into the back of the cage to hand the Diplomats a 3-0 lead heading into the break.
F&M refused to let up, controlling the ball on its offensive side of the field throughout the second half. Cole netted her second of the game in the 43rd minute, while Dalton tacked on a pair in the 47th and 57th to give the Diplomats the six-goal victory.
Dalton was solid throughout, adding a pair of assists to go along with her two scores. The shot count sat firmly in the Diplomats' favor at 39-0, while corners also belonged to F&M at 34-0. Allie Morey (18-2) captured the shutout win, her seventh of the season and the 11th overall for the Diplomats. The Pride's Raegan Heck (5-14-1) was dealt the loss in cage, despite turning back 11 shots.
Guarisco led the offensive attack with 10 shots, followed by six from Cole and four a piece by Clare Wirth and Sarah Powell.
