Gettysburg Stopped by No. 13 F&M

LANCASTER, Pa. The Gettysburg College field hockey team fell short in its bid to knock off another nationally-ranked team in the Centennial Conference as the Bullets dropped a 2-0 decision at No. 13 Franklin & Marshall College Wednesday night.

After beating No. 15 Ursinus College earlier in the season, Gettysburg (6-6, 4-2 CC) set out to hand Franklin & Marshall (10-2, 7-0 CC) its first conference loss. The Bullets held the Diplomats scoreless for most of the first half as senior goalie Haley Mowery (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Northern) logged five saves.

The hosts struck in the 32nd minute following a save by Mowery. The rebound went to Nicole Bodo who lofted the ball into the cage for the game's first tally.

Mowery picked up two more saves at the start of the second half and the Gettysburg defense held Franklin & Marshall to only one more shot on goal for the remainder of the game. Unfortunately, that attempt turned into a goal as Emily Nagle tipped home a pass by Erin Coverdale in the 63rd minute.

The Diplomats out-shot the Bullets 17-5 and held an 8-5 lead in penalty corners.

Mowery finished with seven saves and freshman Emma Bertrando (West Chester, Pa./Henderson) accounted for a pair of shot attempts.

Gettysburg visits Muhlenberg College (2-9, 1-5 CC) this Saturday at 1 p.m.
