WESTMINSTER, Md. – Caitlin Ashley has announced her resignation as McDaniel College's head field hockey coach.

Ashley took the reins of the Green Terror field hockey program prior to the start the 2019 season. She guided the squad through three seasons that included a full season missed due to COVID-19 and nearly doubled the roster size in her tenure.

A Level I and Level II USA Field Hockey certified coach, Ashley came to the Hill after spending the 2018 season as an assistant coach at nearby Goucher that included serving as interim head coach during her first semester at Goucher.

Prior to her time at Goucher, she served as the head coach at Fallston High School, where she won a 3A state championship as a player, guiding her alma mater to the 2016 2A regional finals and the 2017 1A state semifinals.

Following her successful playing career at Salisbury, she was an assistant coach at C. Milton Wright from 2012-14, helping the team to its first 3A Maryland State Championship in 2013.

"In the too few years since her arrival, Caitlin has worked hard to recruit effective field hockey athletes who would be academically successful, as well," Director of Athletics Adam Hertz said. "The program's rise from its state prior to her arrival has been significant and I thank her for her efforts."

Maggie Sohns, who has been on staff for the last year, will continue to guide the team and recruiting efforts during the coaching transition.
