Championship Sunday

Championship Sunday

#2 Haverford at #1 Franklin & Marshall (Field Hockey, 1:00)
The top two hockey teams in the Conference meet in a top-20 showdown for the Centennial title this afternoon in Lancaster. Both the Diplomats (17-1) and the Fords (14-4) are looking for their first Conference championship. F&M won the regular-season meeting on Oct. 6 by a 2-0 count, tallying goals in each half, to increase its all-time series advantage to 22-7-1. Haverford's last win was a 4-1 triumph in 2010. There have been two championship games that have gone to overtime (2003, 2004) and none have gone to strokes.

#2 Johns Hopkins at #1 Franklin & Marshall (Volleyball, 1:00)
It has been 12 years since the Diplomats (18-13) and the Blue Jays (28-3) have met in the Centennial final. That match was also held in Lancaster and won by F&M in four sets. Today, the Diplomats look for their third Centennial tourney title and try to prevent Hopkins from defending their 2011 championship. F&M is 2-5 all-time in CC finals, while the Jays are 1-3. The Diplomats are 3-5 in five-set tourney matches, while Hop is 2-3. The last final to go five sets was in 2002 as Gettysburg outlasted F&M, 30-25, 27-30, 30-26, 27-30, 19-17.

#3 Haverford at #1 Johns Hopkins (Women's Soccer, 1:00)
The Blue Jays (15-3-1) look for their eighth consecutive Conference crown when they entertain the Fords (13-3-2) in the title match. Hopkins defeated Haverford, 5-1, back on Oct. 13 as Hannah Kronick scored four times. JHU is 7-0-1 against the Fords since 2008 and have not lost to Haverford at Homewood Field since 1995 (4-0). Hop is also 4-0 vs. the Fords in the CC playoffs, including a PK shootout advancement in the 2010 semifinals. This is Haverford's first appearance in the Centennial final.

#3 Haverford at #1 Swarthmore (Men's Soccer, 3:00)
For the first time in the 20-year history of the Centennial, Haverford and Swarthmore will square off for a team championship. The Garnet (14-1-2) look for its third Conference title and keep its even-numbered year streak alive, winning crowns at home in 2008 and 2010. The Fords (11-7) are back in the Centennial final for the second straight season, looking for their first CC championship. It is the 91st meeting on the pitch between the schools with Haverford holding a 44-38-8 advantage. Swarthmore captured a 2-0 decision on Oct. 27 at Clothier Field and has won eight of the last nine matchups. The Fords' last win at Swat was in 2002 (1-0).
