Centennial Conference Athletes of the Week - Oct. 25-31

LANCASTER, Pa. -- Playoff time is here for the majority of Centennial Conference fall sports as field hockey, men's soccer, women's soccer and volleyball have wrapped up regular season play and begin conference tournaments this week. Meanwhile, men's and women's swimming completed its second weekend of meets and men's and women's basketball open their seasons this weekend. 

This week marks the final weekly honors for fall sports. Winners for the week of Oct. 25-31 include Elle Bruggeman of Ursinus field hockey, Katie Roper of Franklin & Marshall field hockey, Stathis Kalathias of Swarthmore men's soccer, Sam Altman Farrell of Franklin & Marshall men's soccer, Katie Sullivan of Johns Hopkins women's soccer, Hannah Friedrich of Haverford women's soccer, Dina Kosyagin of Haverford volleyball, Brendan Cline of Franklin & Marshall men's swimming, and Teresa Draves of Washington College women's swimming.

FIELD HOCKEY
 
Offensive Player of the Week
Ellie Bruggeman, So., F/M, Ursinus
Joppa, Md. | John Carroll School
Bruggeman recorded six points behind two goals and two assists in a pair of wins for 14th-ranked Ursinus last week. She opened the week with three points on a goal and an assist in a 2-0 win over No. 17 Haverford on Wednesday night, including scoring the game-winner. Bruggeman followed with another one-goal, one-assist performance in the Bears 8-2 win over Gettysburg on Saturday afternoon.
 
Defensive Player of the Week
Katie Roper, Jr., D/M, Franklin & Marshall
Exeter Township, Pa. | Exeter Township
Roper was a part of an F&M defense that allowed just two total shots on goal during Centennial Conference shutout victories against Muhlenberg and McDaniel.

MEN'S SOCCER
 
Offensive Player of the Week
Stathis Kalathias, So., M, Swarthmore
London, England | Hampton School
Kalathias helped Swarthmore to a 1-0 week as he scored the overtime game-winning goal at Haverford on Saturday, clinching the No. 4 seed in the Centennial Conference playoffs for the Garnet. 
 
Defensive Player of the Week
Sam Altman Farrell, Sr., GK, Franklin & Marshall
Severna Park, Md. | Severna Park
Altman Farrell posted a pair of clean sheets as the Diplomats went 2-0 on the week, highlighted by a shutout victory against first-place Johns Hopkins. Farrell finished the regular season with the best overall GAA (0.61) and save percentage (.815) among conference goalies.

WOMEN'S SOCCER

Offensive Player of the Week
Katie Sullivan, Fr., F, Johns Hopkins
Yardley, Pa. | Villa Joseph Marie
Sullivan continued her outstanding freshman season, scoring a pair of game-winning goals to help the Blue Jays finish off a 10-0 Centennial Conference season. Sullivan scored just seven minutes into the contest against Dickinson on Wednesday, putting the Jays in position to go on to a 2-0 victory. On Saturday in the regular-season finale, Sullivan found the back of the net for the 10th time this season to beat F&M 1-0. Sullivan is the eighth Blue Jay freshman to score 10 goals in a season.
 
Defensive Player of the Week
Hannah Friedrich, Sr., GK, Haverford
Rye, N.Y. | Rye
Friedrich logged yet another shutout as she finished her Haverford career with 17 solo shutouts, stopping seven shots against CC-tournament bound Swarthmore in the Fords lone contest of the week. Haverford captured the win in double overtime as Friedrich sealed her career with the third-best GAA in program history (0.75).

VOLLEYBALL

Player of the Week
Dina Kosyagin, Sr., OH, Haverford
Las Vegas, Nev. | The Meadows School
Kosyagin helped Haverford clinch the No. 2 seed in the upcoming Centennial Conference postseason with 3-0 wins over Ursinus and Swarthmore last week. The senior outside hitter averaged 4.83 kills per set at .288% clip, contributing 5.3 points per set for the Fords. She opened the week with eight kills in a sweep of Ursinus, and followed that up by tying the Haverford program record for kills in a three-set match with 21 over rival Swarthmore. She committed just three errors in that match, tallying four kills in the do-or-die extra points of the third set and securing that marathon third set, which ended 32-30, with a service ace.

MEN'S SWIMMING
 
Athlete of the Week
Brendan Cline, Sr., Franklin & Marshall
Annapolis, Md. | Key School
Cline won all four of his races in Saturday's CC dual meet victory at Gettysburg, posting three times that rank in the top-five nationally. Individually, his 50 freestyle time of 20.40 is second in the nation, behind only teammate Christopher Schiavone. He was also part of winning 200 freestyle relay (1:21.85) and 400 medley relay (3:23.91) squads that posted the second and third best times in Division III, respectively. He also won the 100 butterfly at 50.74, which was not his top time of the year but still ranks among the top-20 nationally. In total, Cline is undefeated in eight races this year. 

WOMEN'S SWIMMING
 
Athlete of the Week
Teresa Draves, Sr., Washington College
Gilbertsville, Pa. | Boyertown Area
Draves won a pair of events on Saturday against No. 16 Swarthmore. Draves won the 100 individual medley in 1:03.46 and the 400 IM with a time of 4:52.89. Her time in the 100 IM is the second fastest in program history and ranks first in the Centennial and 26th nationally. Her 400 IM time is also tops in the CC and is 41st in the nation.
