Centennial Conference Athletes of the Week - Oct. 31-Nov. 6

LANCASTER, Pa. -- The fall regular season is now in the rearview mirror and the winter seasons are now underway for men's and women's swimming and wrestling. Men's and women's basketball tip-off the 2022-23 campaign this week. 

Centennial weekly awards for the week of Oct. 30-Nov. 6 include Andrew Karpenko and Quinn Weygandt of Swarthmore swimming and Brandon Bowles of Muhlenberg wrestling. Weygandt headlines the list of winners after breaking a conference record last week.

MEN'S SWIMMING

Athlete of the Week
Andrew Karpenko, Jr., Swarthmore
Minneapolis, Minn. | Minnehaha Academy
Karpenko put together strong finishes in four different events at the UChicago D3 Shootout. Karpenko moved into the top-30 in the nation in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 58.22. The junior also swam in the 200 breaststroke (2:10.05), 200 IM (1:58.23) and 400 IM (4:16.87). Both his 200 breaststroke and 400 IM times rank inside the top-50 nationally.

WOMEN'S SWIMMING

Quinn Weygandt, Fr., Swarthmore
Madison, Wisc. | Madison West
Weygandt set a conference and program record in the 400 IM with a time of 4:29.19 to meet NCAA B-cut standard at the UChicago D3 Shootout this weekend. The first-year broke the program record by four seconds and the previous CC record of 4:31.20 set by Katie Schultz of Ursinus in 2019 while earning a fourth-place finish in the top final of the event. Weygandt also put together impressive swims in the 500 freestyle (5:09.52) and 200 butterfly (2:09.11) as she moved into the top-10 in program history for both events.

WRESTLING

Brandon Bowles, So., 157, Muhlenberg
Scotch Plains, N.J. | Scotch Plains-Fanwood
Bowles went 4-0 to win the 157-pound bracket at the season-opening Alvernia Invitational for his first career tournament title. Ranked second in the Mideast Region at 149, he breezed through his first three matches on a first-minute pin, a technical fall and a 7-0 decision to set up a showdown with the third-ranked 157-pounder in the Southeast Region. The final was worthy of two ranked wrestlers, with Bowles scoring a takedown in sudden victory for a 3-1 win.
