Centennial Conference Athletes of the Week - Feb. 13-19

LANCASTER, Pa. -- This week features a large number of conference awards with winter-spring crossover season in full force. The final basketball and indoor track & field awards of the 2022-23 season were distributed, as were the first spring awards for baseball, lacrosse and tennis. Centennial winter championships wrap up this week with basketball and track & field titles at stake. 

Tyren Proctor of McDaniel men's track & field broke his own conference record in the 60-meter hurdles to lead this week's group of CC award winners. Muhlenberg swept the basketball awards with Tommy McGuire and Margaux Eripret closing out the regular season in impressive fashion for the Mules as they head into the playoffs this week. Chett Brunner of McDaniel men's track & field made it a Green Terror sweep of this week's awards on the men's side, while the Gettysburg women's lacrosse duo of Caroline Sullivan and Lily Macatee also swept the weekly honors for their sport.

Other weekly honorees included Olivia D'Aulerio of Haverford women's track & field, Emily Trelstad of Swarthmore women's track & field, Ben Davis of McDaniel baseball, Kyle Roche of Franklin & Marshall baseball, Tommy Garofalo of F&M men's lacrosse, John McKee of Dickinson men's lacrosse, Karl Hoegstedt of Washington College men's tennis, and Mary Beth Hurley of Johns Hopkins women's tennis.

MEN'S BASKETBALL 

Athlete of the Week
Tommy McGuire, Sr., F, Muhlenberg
Westfield, N.J. | Westfield
McGuire averaged a double-double (13.5 points, 10.0 rebounds) and was nearly perfect from the field, shooting 92.3 percent to help the Mules to two wins that clinched a home playoff game. He had 10 points and eight rebounds in a 94-61 win at Ursinus, then scored 17 points on 7-of-7 shooting from the field to go along with 12 rebounds, four assists and two blocked shots on Senior Day as Muhlenberg defeated Washington, 86-70. The two wins enabled the Mules to tie the school record of 12 CC wins in a season.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

Athlete of the Week
Margaux Eripret, Gr., F, Muhlenberg
Allentown, Pa. | Central Catholic 
Eripret averaged 22.5 points and 10.0 rebounds, recording double-doubles in both games as Muhlenberg posted a pair of wins to lock down the No. 5 seed in the CC playoffs. She had 21 points and 10 rebounds in a double-overtime win at Ursinus, with six of her points and four of her rebounds coming in the two extra periods, and finished with 24 points and 10 rebounds in only 25 minutes against Washington in her final home game. Eripret went 3-for-3 from three-point range in the Washington game and shot 45.7 percent from the field, 50.0 percent on threes and 83.3 percent from the foul line for the week. 

MEN'S INDOOR TRACK & FIELD
 
Track Athlete of the Week
Tyren Proctor, Jr., McDaniel
Westminster, Md. | North Point
Proctor broke his own Centennial Conference and program record in the 60-meter hurdles, finishing second with a time of 8.30 seconds at Navy on Friday. On Saturday at Hagerstown, Proctor won the 55m Hurdles with a time of 7.90 seconds.
 
Field Athlete of the Week
Chett Brunner, Jr., McDaniel
Sykesville, Md. | Century
Brunner won the shot put at the Larry Sharpe Invitational with a mark of 15.03 meters. That mark ranks second in the conference this season and third in program history. 
 

WOMEN'S INDOOR TRACK & FIELD
 
Track Athlete of the Week
Olivia D'Aulerio, Fr., Haverford 
Chesterfield, N.J. | The Hun School of Princeton
D'Aulerio set a new personal record in the 200 meters with a mark of 26.38 at the Keogh Invitational to claim the event crown. The time bested her previous PR of 26.76 from Tufts on Feb. 4. That mark ranks third in the Centennial this season. 
 
Field Athlete of the Week
Emily Trelstad, So., Swarthmore
Brookline, Mass. | Brookline
Trelstad recorded a high jump mark of 1.60 meters at the Princeton Indoor Invitational. That mark is tied for tops in the Centennial this winter and also ranks tied for 46th on the Division III performance list. 
 

BASEBALL
 
Player of the Week
Ben Davis, Fr., C/1B, McDaniel
Fulton, Md. | Reservoir
Davis began his college career by hitting .300 with seven RBIs and two extra-base hits, including a grand slam as McDaniel opened the season by sweeping a road doubleheader at Bridgewater on Saturday. He went 3-for-10 with three runs scored while adding a double in game two.
 
Pitcher of the Week
Kyle Roche, Sr., RHP, Franklin & Marshall
Sandy Hook, Conn. | Newtown
Roche, the 2021 CC Pitcher of the Year, allowed just four hits and one earned run over five innings during the Diplomats' season opener. He struck out three and did not walk a hitter.

MEN'S LACROSSE
 
Offensive Player of the Week
Tommy Garofalo, Fr., A, Franklin & Marshall
Bronxville, N.Y. | Bronxville
Garofalo scored seven goals during his collegiate debut to lead F&M to an 18-6 win in the season opener over Lebanon Valley. That scoring total is the 10th-highest single game performance in school history. The Diplomat first-year tallied 14 shots, three ground balls, and also caused one turnover.
 
Defensive Player of the Week
John McKee, Jr., FO, Dickinson
Virginia Beach, Va. | Episcopal
McKee was a main catalyst in ninth-ranked Dickinson's season-opening 13-6 win against visiting Stevens on Saturday. The junior faceoff specialist was dominant at the "X" going an astounding 18-for-21 (85.7%), while claiming 16 ground balls. He allowed for the Red Devils to play "make it take it" lacrosse as they scored six of their 13 goals directly off of his faceoff wins.

WOMEN'S LACROSSE

Offensive Player of the Week
Caroline Sullivan, Jr., M, Gettysburg
Fairfield, Conn. | Fairfield Ludlowe
Sullivan scored four goals and added two assists in a 15-5 win over Stevenson on Saturday. She scored her four goals on just five shots while also winning three draw controls.
 
Defensive Player of the Week
Lily Macatee, So., D, Gettysburg
Street, Md. | North Harford 
Macatee led the Bullets in a 15-5 season opening win over Stevenson. She corralled eight draws while also picking up three ground balls and causing one turnover.

MEN'S TENNIS

Athlete of the Week
Karl Hoegstedt, Sr., Washington College
West Chester, Pa. | B. Reed Henderson 
Hoegstedt went 2-0 in both singles and doubles on Saturday against Stevens and 18th-ranked Mary Washington. Against the 18th-ranked Eagles, he topped Rishi Charan Shankar, ranked 20th nationally and fifth in the Atlantic Region, 6-4, 6-4, at No. 1 singles. In doubles, he teamed up with Andre-Remi Jakobi to get an 8-7 win at top flight doubles over the Eagles' duo of Charan Shankar and Andrew Watson. Earlier in the day versus Stevens, Hoegstedt won at the top flight in the first singles to finish, 6-1, 6-3, over Vivek Harinarayan. In doubles, Hoegstedt and Jakobi recorded an 8-6 win at No. 1 over the Ducks' tandem of Olof Persson and Troy Zhang. In singles, Hoegstedt is ranked 35th nationally and ninth in the Atlantic South region.

WOMEN'S TENNIS

Athlete of the Week
Mary Beth Hurley, Gr., Johns Hopkins
Novi, Mich. | IMG Academy
Hurley went a combined 6-0 to in a 2-2 week for the Blue Jays. She went 3-0 at second singles, including a pair of three-set wins, and 3-0 at second doubles. She and partner Emily Javedan lost a total of four games in three doubles matches.
