Centennial Conference Athletes of the Week - Jan. 30-Feb.5

LANCASTER, Pa. -- Another conference indoor track & field record fell last week as the winter seasons continue and we approach the first Centennial championship of 2023, the CC Wrestling Championship at Ursinus this Saturday. This past week marked the final CC weekly honors of the year for wrestling and swimming. 

Lauren Phillips of Johns Hopkins women's track & field headlines this week's honorees as she continued to etch her name in the conference record books. Other repeat winners included Victoria Kadiri of JHU women's track & field, Jamie Moreland of Haverford men's track & field and James Cruz of Merchant Marine wrestling. Isaiah Edmond of Dickinson men's basketball, Dana Bandurick of Swarthmore women's basketball, Omar Ebied and Olivia Stoetzer of Swarthmore swimming, and Ethan Hart of Dickinson men's track & field secured the other honors for the week.

MEN'S BASKETBALL

Athlete of the Week
Isaiah Edmond, Fr., G, Dickinson
Lincoln Park, N.J. | Don Bosco Prep
Edmond served as a major catalyst in a 2-0 week with averages of 17 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 3.0 assists per game on 50% shooting as the Red Devils kept their playoff hopes alive with victories over Muhlenberg and Washington College. In a 77-61 win over Muhlenberg on Wednesday, the freshman guard fell just short of a double-double with 12 points and nine boards along with two helpers. On Saturday against the Shoremen, Edmond tied for the team-high in points with 22 on 70% shooting from the floor while chipping in six rebounds, four assists and a steal as the Red and White collected a 86-70 win. 

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

Athlete of the Week
Dana Bandurick, Sr., G, Swarthmore
New Hope, Pa. | Council Rock North
Bandurick averaged 17.0 points, 11.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 2.5 steals and 2.0 blocks per game to help lead the Garnet to wins over Washington College and Franklin & Marshall. The senior had her best game of the season with 20 points, 14 rebounds, four assists, four steals and three blocks against the Diplomats. She shot 48% (12-for-25) from the field in the two victories.  

MEN'S SWIMMING

Athlete of the Week
Omar Ebied, So., Swarthmore
Woodside, N.Y. | Baccalaureate School for Global Education
Ebied earned four lifetime bests, a pair of top-10 all-time program swims and set a pool record at the Swarthmore Invitational. Ebied posted a time of 4:09.35 in the 400 IM to break the pool record and move into ninth all-time on Swarthmore's leaderboard. He also moved into ninth all-time in the 200 IM (1:55.48), while adding lifetime bests in the 50 backstroke and 200 breaststroke.

WOMEN'S SWIMMING
 
Athlete of the Week
Olivia Stoetzer, Sr., Swarthmore
Honolulu, Hawaii | Saint Andrews Priory
Stoetzer posted a lifetime best in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:58.55 at the Swarthmore Invitational. The senior also had college-best marks in the 100 (55.43) and 500 (5:12.86) freestyles.

WRESTLING
 
Athlete of the Week
James Cruz, Sr., 197, Merchant Marine
Belleville, N.J. | St. Peter's Prep
Cruz went a perfect 3-0 on the day at 197 at the Centennial Duals hosted by Muhlenberg this past Saturday, including a 4-0 decision victory over McDaniel's Jaedyn Harris, ranked as an honorable mention by d3wrestle.com. He then went on to earn a win via fall against Johns Hopkins and a technical fall vs. Muhlenberg. 

MEN'S INDOOR TRACK & FIELD
 
Track Athlete of the Week
Jamie Moreland, Sr., Haverford
Los Angeles, Calif. | Campbell Hall
Moreland paced the field in the 800 at the NYC Division III Invitational at the Amory, setting a new meet record at 1:52.99. The time fell just shy of his personal best of 1:52.93 that he set on the same track last month at the TCNJ Invite. Moreland's time ranks among the top-20 nationally. 
 
Field Athlete of the Week
Ethan Hart, Jr., Dickinson
New Market, Md. | Linganore
Hart set a new school record and posted the fifth-best shot put mark in Centennial indoor history on Friday night at the NYU Invitational. The junior registered a toss of 15.78 meters, beating out his next-closest competitor in the event by 0.16m. The mark is tops in the CC this season and ranks 20th on the national list. 
 

WOMEN'S INDOOR TRACK & FIELD
 
Track Athlete of the Week
Lauren Phillips, So., Johns Hopkins
Mount Laurel, N.J. | Moorestown Friends School
Phillips continued her assault on the conference and school record books with another record-breaking weekend at NYU's Division III Invitational. In the 400 meters, she broke a 21-year-old Centennial record with a time of 56.79. The previous CC record was set by Swarthmore's Imo Akpan in March of 2002. The time was also a JHU program record and a meet record and earned her first place in a field of 48, more than two seconds faster than the runner-up. In the 200 meters, she clocked in at 25.53 to place first in a field of 59 entries. That 200 time ranks second in CC history and broke another JHU record. The 200 time ranks sixth on the national list while the 400 time is 29th. 
 
Field Athlete of the Week
Victoria Kadiri, Jr., Johns Hopkins 
Lynn, Mass. | Phillips Academy
Kadiri was one of the top performers at NYU's Division III Invitational at the Armory. She won the long jump (5.56m), triple jump (12.27m) and 60-meter hurdles (9.41) to lead the way for the Blue Jays. Kadiri's triple jump mark is the second-best mark in Division III this year (behind only her own from earlier in the season), while her long jump is also a top-five mark nationally.
