Athletes of the Week: March 6-12

LANCASTER, Pa. -- The majority of Centennial teams were on spring break trips last week as non-conference action continues in baseball, softball, lacrosse and tennis. 

This week's honorees include Bobby Falese of Franklin & Marshall baseball, Nate Masteralexis of Gettysburg baseball, Carley Parsons of Haverford softball, Megan Hughes of Gettysburg softball, Jason Metz of Muhlenberg men's lacrosse, Colin Laforty of Gettysburg men's lacrosse, Ellie Morrall and Sydney Wingate of Washington College women's lacrosse, Darby Rogers of Ursinus men's tennis, and Nicole Lim of Bryn Mawr women's tennis.

BASEBALL

Player of the Week
Bobby Falese, Jr., INF, Franklin & Marshall
Medford, N.J. | Shawnee
Falese went 9-for-14 (.643) at the plate with three triples, nine RBIs and nine runs scored in a 4-0 week for the Diplomats. He registered multiple hits, runs scored, and RBIs in all four games and had one triple in each of the final three games of the week. Falese also stole three bases and posted a .688 on-base percentage and 1.071 slugging percentage for the week. In an 8-5 win over York, he drove in the go-ahead run with a single in the bottom of the seventh inning. 

Pitcher of the Week
Nate Masteralexis, Sr., LHP, Gettysburg
Amherst, Mass. | Northfield Mount Hermon
Masteralexis made two starts in Florida, picking up the win in both games. He threw 10.0 innings with 10 strikeouts and allowed just one walk and one earned run. He posted a 0.90 ERA in the 2-0 week.

SOFTBALL

Player of the Week
Carley Parsons, Sr., OF, Haverford
Yardley, Pa. | Pennsbury
Parsons opened the season on fire for the Fords, hitting 12-for-19 (.632) with an inside-the-park home run, a triple, two doubles, 11 RBIs, 10 runs scored and seven stolen bases in a 7-1 week at the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic in Florida. Parsons notched five multi-hit games and seven games with at least one RBI and one run scored. The senior outfielder posted a .682 on-base percentage and slugged 1.000 for the week. The 7-1 start is Haverford's best since 2014. Despite having just eight games to its ledger so far this season, the Haverford offense ranks second in the nation in total runs (107), fourth for hits (134), and fourth for batting average (.429).

Pitcher of the Week
Megan Hughes, Jr., P, Gettysburg
Woodstock, Md. | Marriotts Ridge
Hughes posted a 0.49 ERA with a 2-0 record and a save in four appearances on the week. She threw 14 1/3 innings with 14 strikeouts and four walks, allowing just 10 hits and one earned run. 

MEN'S LACROSSE

Offensive Player of the Week
Jason Metz, Sr., M, Muhlenberg
Reading, Pa. | Exeter Twp. 
Metz, who came into the week with a career total of nine goals, scored nine in two games as the Mules defeated Scranton and St. John Fisher. Against Scranton, Metz became only the seventh different Muhlenberg player since the program's reinstatement in 2003 to score six goals in a game, completing a hat trick in the first quarter in helping the Mules build a commanding 15-7 lead en route to a 17-13 win. Metz added three goals in a 10-9 win against St. John Fisher, a team that advanced to the Round of 16 in the NCAA Tournament last year.

Defensive Player of the Week
Colin Laforty, Fr., GK, Gettysburg
Ridgewood, N.J. | Ridgewood
LaForty made 11 saves in his first collegiate start, helping the Bullets to a 15-9 victory over seventh-ranked Washington and Lee on Saturday. 

WOMEN'S LACROSSE

Offensive Player of the Week
Ellie Morrall, Sr., M, Washington College
Contoocook, N.H. | Hopkinton
Morrall scored six goals, handed out three assists for nine points, while winning 12 draw controls, scooping up six ground balls and notching five caused turnovers in a 2-0 week for the Shorewomen. In Wednesday's 10-7 win over Rowan, she led all players with five points on three goals and two assists, both of which tied for tops in the game. The senior also had game-bests of six draws and five caused turnovers, which tied her personal-best, in addition to two ground balls in the three-goal win. Her goal with 10:35 left in the fourth quarter proved to be the game-winning goal. On Saturday in a 15-6 win over visiting Randolph-Macon, she had four points on three goals and one helper to go along with contest-bests of six draws and four ground balls.

Defensive Player of the Week
Sydney Wingate, Sr., GK, Washington College
Pasadena, Md. | Northeast
Wingate went 2-0 with a 6.86 goals against average and a 57.1% save percentage for the Shorewomen this past week. On Wednesday in the team's 10-7 win over visiting Rowan, she made nine stops, including three in the fourth quarter where she allowed just one goal in helping WC outscore the Profs 4-1 for the win. On Saturday in a 15-6 triumph over visiting Randolph-Macon, the senior turned away seven shots in 45:00 of action.

MEN'S TENNIS

Athlete of the Week
Darby Rogers, Jr., Ursinus
Madison, Conn. | Daniel Hand
Rogers went a perfect 10-0 on the Bears' Florida trip, going 5-0 in both singles and doubles action. He played all five doubles matches out of the No. 2 spot while playing No. 4 singles in four of his five matches and No. 2 in the other. Ursinus finished with a 4-1 record for the week. 


WOMEN'S TENNIS

Athlete of the Week
Nicole Lim, Gr., Bryn Mawr
Lim opened her varsity collegiate career with two wins at first singles (6-0, 6-4) and doubles (8-2) as the Owls opened the spring with a 7-2 triumph over Moravian. The match was the first NCAA competition for LIm, who played club tennis as an undergrad.
