Athletes of the Week: March 13-19

LANCASTER, Pa. -- Spring non-conference action continued last week in baseball, softball, lacrosse and tennis, with conference play set to begin for several sports in late March and early April. 

Paige Forry of Gettysburg softball leads this week's group of Centennial award winners with her second Pitcher of the Week honor this spring. Others who earned weekly honors include Joe Radek of Swarthmore baseball, Josh Fuller of Haverford baseball, Abby Marquis of Haverford softball, Carter Strauch of Swarthmore men's lacrosse, Cole Corrigan of Washington College men's lacrosse, Jordan Basso of Gettysburg women's lacrosse, Morgan Nash of Bryn Mawr women's lacrosse, Ethan Yu of Ursinus men's tennis, and Wynn Bryant of Bryn Mawr women's tennis.

BASEBALL

Player of the Week
Joe Radek, Jr., OF, Swarthmore
Middle River, Md. | McDonogh School
Radek helped lead the Garnet to a pair of wins over Misericordia and Immaculata with home runs in both games. He hit 3-for-6 on the week with five RBIs, four runs scored, two home runs and two walks. The home runs were the first two of his career. Radek posted a 2.125 OPS with a 1.500 slugging percentage and .625 on-base percentage for the week. 

Pitcher of the Week
Josh Fuller, Sr., RHP, Haverford 
Sims, N.C. | Phillips Exeter Academy (N.H.)
Fuller struck out 11 and allowed only four hits and one walk over seven innings in a victory against Cabrini on Saturday. The senior earned a complete-game victory in the seven-inning contest, fanning batters at a 14.14 per nine-inning pace en route to the win. Haverford has won eight of its last nine contests.

SOFTBALL

Player of the Week
Abby Marquis, Sr., C/3B, Haverford 
Albuquerque, N.M. | Cibola
Marquis hit .643 (9-for-14) with two doubles, two triples, five home runs, 15 RBIs and nine runs scored in a 4-0 week for the Fords. That effort included a program-best three homers in the first game of a doubleheader at Cabrini on Wednesday as part of a four-homer day. She slashed a .643/.667/2.143 line and also played stellar defense, splitting time between catcher and the infield. Marquis recorded at least one hit and scored one run in each contest while knocking in multiple RBIs in each contest. She leads the Centennial Conference in RBIs (25), homers (5), triples (3), and slugging percentage (1.087). Haverford has now won seven in a row and is off to its best 14-game start in program history. Through two weeks of the regular season, Haverford is just one victory away from matching its win total from all of the 2022 campaign.

Pitcher of the Week
Paige Forry, So., P, Gettysburg
Reading, Pa. | Schuylkill Valley
Forry earned Pitcher of the Week accolades for the second time this spring after pitching a complete-game shutout to lead the Bullets to an 11-0, five-inning win in the second game over Mary Washington on Saturday. She struck out seven and walked just one, scattering five hits in the victory.

MEN'S LACROSSE

Offensive Player of the Week
Carter Strauch, Jr., A, Swarthmore
Alamo, Calif. | San Ramon Valley
Strauch helped lead the Garnet to their fourth-straight victory with a pair of big performances against Stockton and Arcadia. The junior totaled 12 points on nine goals and three assists on the week. Strauch had a career-high eight points on six goals and two assists against Stockton. He then closed the week with three goals and an assist versus Arcadia.

Defensive Player of the Week
Cole Corrigan, Sr., GK, Washington College
Towson, Md. | Loyola Blakefield
Corrigan tied his career-high with 22 saves in the Shoremen's 14-6 win over visiting Mary Washington on Saturday afternoon. He made nine saves in the first half and 13 in the second half as he allowed just three goals in each half as the Shoremen surpassed their win total from last year. The senior had a .786 save percentage in the game.

WOMEN'S LACROSSE

Offensive Player of the Week
Jordan Basso, Jr., A, Gettysburg 
Rye, N.Y. | Rye
Basso led the Bullets to a 19-9 win over No. 10 York (Pa.) on Wednesday, scoring a career-high seven goals on the afternoon. She scored on 70% of her shots and also had one ground ball.

Defensive Player of the Week
Morgan Nash, Sr., D, Bryn Mawr
Maplewood, N.J. | Columbia
Nash led an Owls' defense that limited Lancaster Bible to just three goals last Wednesday. The senior picked up seven ground balls and caused two turnovers in the victory. 

MEN'S TENNIS

Athlete of the Week
Ethan Yu, Jr., Ursinus
Wilmington Del. | The Tatnall School
Yu won both singles and doubles matches in the Bears 7-2 win over Lebanon Valley on Saturday. He teamed up with Darby Rogers to win 8-2 at No. 2 doubles before defeating Brady McLucas 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3 singles. Yu is 7-1 in singles on the season and a perfect 9-0 in doubles matches.


WOMEN'S TENNIS

Athlete of the Week
Wynn Bryant, Jr., Bryn Mawr 
St. Petersburg, Fla. | Shorecrest Prep
Bryant won both matches during Bryn Mawr's dominant 8-1 win against Goucher last Friday. Bryant competed in first doubles (8-5) and second singles (6-2, 6-1). In singles this spring season, the junior has only let up six games and remains undefeated in both singles and doubles.
