Centennial Conference Athletes of the Week - Sept. 5-11

LANCASTER, Pa. -- Week two of 2022 is now in the books as Centennial Conference teams continued non-conference play in men's and women's cross country, field hockey, men's and women's soccer, and volleyball from Sept. 5-11. 

Weekly honors were earned last week by Teddy Mercer of Dickinson men's cross country, Rachel Conhoff of Ursinus women's cross country, Katherine Kohn of Swarthmore field hockey, Jordan Ulsh of Ursinus field hockey, Justin Winborne-Freeman of McDaniel men's soccer, Alex Morgret of Johns Hopkins men's soccer, Kim Kockenmeister and Emme Hansard of Swarthmore women's soccer, Caroline Sherman of Ursinus volleyball, and Zoe Boxill of Bryn Mawr volleyball.

MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY

Athlete of the Week
Teddy Mercer, Sr., Dickinson
Cortland, N.Y. | Homer
Red Devil senior Teddy Mercer posted a 5k time of 15:43.9 to best the 39-runner field at the annual Little Three Championship, hosted by Gettysburg. Mercer's victory helped lead Dickinson to the team title at the three-team event. 

WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY
 
Athlete of the Week
Rachel Conhoff, Sr., Ursinus
Christiansted, Virgin Islands | Good Hope Country Day School
Conhoff finished second among 190 runners at the LVC Dutchmen Invitational, posting a time of 18.47.30 on the 5k course. Her run helped the team finish second overall and was the top-finishing Division III school at the event on the women's side. Conhoff has finished in the top-three in both Bears races this season.

FIELD HOCKEY
 
Offensive Player of the Week
Katherine Kohn, So., F, Swarthmore
Bethesda, Md. | Holton Arms School
Kohn produced seven points with three goals and one assist in a 1-1 week for the Garnet. The sophomore opened the week with a game-tying goal in an overtime loss versus No. 3 Rowan. Kohn then scored twice and added an assist in a 3-0 victory over Stevens.
 
Defensive Player of the Week
Jordan Ulsh, Sr., GK, Ursinus
Elliottsburg, Pa. | West Perry
Ulsh was brilliant for Ursinus in the net on Saturday as the Bears won 2-1 over Lynchburg in double overtime. She made 11 saves with a .917% save rate that kept the Bears in the game as the Hornets controlled play in the second half. Ulsh has posted a pair of double-digit save efforts in the Bears first two games this season.

MEN'S SOCCER
 
Offensive Player of the Week
Justin Winborne-Freeman, So., F, McDaniel
Brooklyn, N.Y. | Urban Assembly for Law and Justice
Winborne-Freeman came off the bench for McDaniel and provided a spark in both games this week. At Marywood he broke the deadlock with a beautiful cross into the box which setup Carver Neary's first goal of the season. On Saturday against Hood, Winborne-Freeman cut across the back of the defense and finished a volley from Nick Starr to put the Green Terror up two and kept the unbeaten start to the season going.
 
Defensive Player of the Week
Alex Morgret, Sr., GK, Johns Hopkins
Hummelstown, Pa. | Hershey
Morgret posted three shutouts in a 2-0-1 week for the Blue Jays. He made seven saves in a 1-0 win at Mary Washington on Wednesday. He then posted six saves in a 2-0 win over 10th-ranked Cortland on Saturday. Morgret wrapped up the week with a one-save shutout in a scoreless draw with 22nd-ranked Emory.

WOMEN'S SOCCER

Offensive Player of the Week
Kim Kockenmeister, Sr., F, Swarthmore
Greenwich, Conn. | Greenwich
Kockenmeister overtook the team lead in goals and points with a pair of two-goal games this weekend. The senior scored two goals in a 3-0 win at Bridgewater and another pair of goals in a 5-0 win at Rutgers-Newark. She is currently tied for the conference lead in goals scored. The Garnet are 5-0 to start the season.
 
Defensive Player of the Week
Emme Hansard, So., D, Swarthmore
Sherman Oaks, Calif. | Notre Dame
Hansard and the Garnet defense posted a trio of shutout victories last week over Bridgewater (Va.), William Paterson and Rutgers-Newark. The sophomore, who has been a lockdown 1v1 defender for the Garnet, had a pivotal impact on limiting scoring chances and keeping opponents off the scoreboard this week.

VOLLEYBALL

Offensive Player of the Week
Caroline Sherman, So., MB/OH, Ursinus
Bear, Del. | Appoquinimink
Sherman totaled 40 kills (3.08 kills per set) in four matches this week, leading the Bears to a perfect 4-0 record. Incredibly efficient, Sherman finished with double-digit kills in three matches while netting a .407 hitting percentage. She also led the Bears with 17 aces (1.31 per set) including nine in the Bears final match of the weekend. She added 16 digs and seven blocks throughout the week.
 
Defensive Player of the Week
Zoe Boxill, So., OH, Bryn Mawr
Bexley, Ohio | Bexley
Boxill had a superb all-around week for the Owls, leading the team with 70 digs on the week while also contributing 27 kills in a 2-1 week. The sophomore posted an incredible 5.83 digs per set on the week as an outside hitter, and she is currently third in the conference in that category (highest non-libero/DS).
