Centennial Notebook
The last week of the regular season brings with it a battle for the top seed for the Conference tournament as well as a fight for the final playoff berth. Dickinson, Franklin & Marshall and Johns Hopkins are dueling for the #1 seed and homecourt for the Centennial final four.
The Diplomats close the season with home games against the Blue Jays and Red Devils. Dickinson travels to Gettysburg on Wednesday, while Hopkins entertains Washington College on Saturday. A 2-0 week for Dickinson or F&M would clinch the top spot. Gettysburg can secure the fifth and final playoff spot with two wins or a victory in its final two games and a loss by McDaniel and Ursinus.
Dickinson has never hosted a Centennial men's playoff game in the Conference's 19-year history. What would homecourt advantage mean? Dickinson is 17-1 in its last 18 games at the Kline Center, while Franklin & Marshall is 21-1 at the Mayser Center since the start of last season.
Franklin & Marshall has hosted the Conference final four six times in the tourney's nine years under the current format. Ursinus has played host twice, while Johns Hopkins has entertained the final four once. The number-one seed has won the Conference tournament seven times in nine seasons since 2004.
Dickinson head coach Alan Seretti registered his 50th career victory at the school with the Devils' win against Haverford. The Red Devils' 17 wins are the most by the program since the 1997 squad registered 17 victories on its way to the program's only Centennial title. Dickinson looks for its first regular-season sweep of Gettysburg and Franklin & Marshall since 1997 this week.
Speaking of sweeps, Swarthmore looks for its first sweep of Haverford since 2001. The Garnet defeated Franklin & Marshall, 73-63, in overtime for its first win over the Diplomats since Jan. 13, 2007. Senior Will Gates (Willseyville, NY / Candor Central) became just the seventh player in Conference history to make 200 three-point field goals and now has 202 for his career.
Muhlenberg sophomore G Malique Killing (Philadelphia, PA / Friends Central) is only the third player in Centennial history to score at least 900 points in his first two seasons and now has 905.
Franklin & Marshall senior F Hayk Gyokchyan (Beirut, Lebanon / Lawrenceville School, NJ) is 19 rebounds shy of becoming the 19th player in Centennial history with 700 career caroms
