Dickinson 81, Washington College 46
Host Dickinson had four players score in double figures as the host Red Devils downed visiting Washington College, 81-46, at the Kline Center in Centennial Conference men's basketball action on Saturday afternoon. The Red Devils improve to 16-5 overall and 11-3 in the Centennial, while the Shoremen drop to 2-19 and 2-12 respectively. Four players reached double figures to lead the Red Devils. Steve Collins (Rydal, Pa./LaSalle College) was dominant inside, scoring a game-high 15 points and controlling six rebounds. Sophomore Gerry Wixted (Moorestown, N.J./Lawrenceville School) added 12 points and four rebounds, going 6-for-6 from the foul line. Sean Brooks led Washington (2-19, 2-12) with 11 points while Dave Knox and Charlie McShane each scored eight on the day.
Franklin & Marshall 68, Muhlenberg 46
Hayk Gyokchyan scored a game-high 28 points to lead Franklin & Marshall to a 68-46 victory over Muhlenberg in Centennial Conference (CC) action Saturday afternoon. The win is the third straight over the Mules and the Diplomats improved to 16-5, 11-3 CC this season. Gyokchyan shot 6-for-9 from behind the arc and went 4-for-4 from to go along with eight rebounds. The senior forward moved into the 10th spot on the all-time rebound list with 663 career boards. Matt Porter hit 7-of-9 foul shots and finished with 13 points and Jon Salandra had eight boards and six points. Malique Killing led Muhlenberg with 18 points on 7-for-18 shooting and Kevin Hargrove finished with 10.
- Mike Gross of the Lancaster Newspapers writes that while injuries heal, defense lasts. Although F&M may not be healthy for the remainder of the year, the Diplomats can still play defense as indicated by their 68-46 win over Muhlenberg.
Johns Hopkins 67, Swarthmore 61
Sophomores George Bugarinovic and Jimmy Hammer combined for 29 points to pace Johns Hopkins to a 67-61 win over visiting Swarthmore in the 12th annual Wall-O'Mahony Game. Bugarinovic was named the game MVP for the Blue Jays, as they win their fifth straight to improve to 14-7 overall and 10-4 in the Centennial Conference. Will Gates earned game MVP honors for the Garnet, who fall to 5-16 on the season and 4-10 in the conference. The Wall-O'Mahony game is played annually in February in honor of Glen Wall and Matt O'Mahony, teammates on the Hopkins men's basketball team from 1982 to 1984. They were best friends and both lost their lives in the World Trade Center attacks on September 11, 2011. Bugarinovic finished with 14 points, going 5-of-8 from the field while also grabbing seven boards and handing out four assists. Hammer led the Blue Jays with 17 points, fueled by a 4-of-6 showing from three-point range. Gates led all scorers and three Garnet in double figures with 18 points and eight rebounds.
Gettysburg 79, Ursinus 67
Senior Derek Brooks (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) erupted for a career-high 26 points and Gettysburg used an early second-half run to pull away for a 79-67 victory over Ursinus College in Centennial Conference men's basketball action in Bream Gymnasium Saturday afternoon. With the victory, the Bullets (12-9, 8-6 CC) swept the season series with Ursinus, won their fifth-straight home game, and pulled into a tie with Muhlenberg – which lost to Franklin & Marshall on Saturday – for fourth place in the conference standings. Brooks, who also tied a season-high with six rebounds, shot 11-for-17 from the floor and exceeded his previous career-best by nine points. He scored 17 of his points in the second half, when the Bullets outscored the Bears 47-37. Three other Bullets scored in double figures, including freshman guard Sango Amolo (Falls Church, Va./McLean), who netted 16 points. Sophomore Joe Emerusabe (Derwood, Md./Magruder) added 14 points off the bench while senior Alex Zurn (Brookeville, Md./St. Andrew's Episcopal) contributed 10 points despite playing just 19 minutes due to foul trouble. Senior guard Matt Donahue shot 4-for-5 from beyond the arc and led Ursinus (7-14, 5-9 CC) with 20 points while junior guard Jesse Krasna posted 13 points and five assists.
McDaniel 70, Haverford 59
McDaniel jumped out to a 9-0 lead and staved off a second-half rally to down Haverford 70-59 in Centennial Conference (CC) men's basketball action on Saturday. Tyler Rudd (Glen Burnie, Md./Glen Burnie) added a career-high six assists to his team highs of 19 points and nine rebounds to pace the Green Terror (19-9, 6-8 CC), who remained two games out of the final playoff spot with four games to play. Evan Pupelis (Manhasset, N.Y./Manhasset) added 14 points and eight rebounds while Nic Martin (Hagerstown, Md./St. Maria Goretti) added nine points and a career-best nine rebounds as part of a 38-22 advantage on the glass. Cam Baker netted 22 of his game-high 26 points for the Fords (7-13, 5-9 CC) after halftime, including 18 during a 27-12 stretch that whittled the Haverford deficit from 16 to one with 5:53 to play.
