Centennial Notebook
Dickinson set a school record with its 20th win of the season in the 64-40 victory at Franklin & Marshall in the Conference final. It is the Red Devils' second Centennial title and first since the 1997 season. Ironically, that title also came on the road as Dickinson won at Swarthmore.
The 24-point margin of victory was the third-largest in Conference championship game history. Only the Devils' 31-point win (90-59) over the Garnet in 1997 and Johns Hopkins' 78-52 triumph at Washington College were larger. All three of those games were won by the road team.
Dickinson will entertain Marietta, champions of the Ohio Athletic Conference, in the first round of the NCAA Division III tournament on Saturday at 7 p.m. It is the first time that the Centennial and OAC have been paired in the NCAA tourney.
It is the sixth time that Franklin & Marshall has fallen in the final and fourth time at home. The Diplomats lost for just the second time in their last 24 games at Mayser Center.
The #1 seed has won the Conference tournament seven times in 10 seasons since 2004. Ursinus and Gettysburg beat F&M in 2005 and 2009, respectively.
Franklin & Marshall senior F Hayk Gyokchyan (Beirut, Lebanon / Lawrenceville School, N.J.) became the 19th player in Centennial history with 700 career caroms and closed his career with 712.
Muhlenberg sophomore G Malique Killing (Philadelphia, Pa. / Friends Central) ended his sophomore season with 963 points – the most by any Centennial player in his first two seasons. His 514 points this season set a program single-season record.
Johns Hopkins sophomore G Jimmy Hammer (Collegeville, Pa. / Germantown Academy) ended the season with 64 three-point goals – the fifth-most in program history.
