Delaney Named Centennial Conference Player of the Year

LANCASTER, PA – Johns Hopkins junior Conner Delaney has been named the Centennial Conference (CC) Player of the Year it was announced this afternoon. Delaney also earns First Team All-Centennial Conference honor and sophomore Tom Quarry was named to Second Team All-Centennial and senior Harry O'Neil was named to the All-Sportsmanship Team.

 

Delaney is the fourth Blue Jay to earn the conference's top honor and first since 1999. Matt Gorman (1997), Greg Roehrig (1998) and Joel Wertman (1999) were the Blue Jays' previous selections. He is also just the second player in Centennial Conference history to earn Rookie and Player of the Year honors. Delaney is the first non-senior to be named CC Player of the Year since 2017 and just the 10th since the conference's inception in 1994. Hopkins has now produced 47 All-CC selections, including 17 first team selections.

 

Delaney leads the Blue Jays and ranks third in the conference with 17.8 points per game, the best per game average since Wertman averaged 18.8 points in 1998-99. He also leads the CC in field goals (176) and assists (133) and ranks third in free throws (85) and steals (46). His 133 assists this season are the fourth most in school history, while his 481 points rank sixth. Delaney was named the Centennial Conference Tournament MVP after scoring 32 points, including the game-winner as time expired, in Saturday's championship game. He ranks fifth in school history in career assists (285), 14th in steals (101), 18th in free throw attempts (300) and 20th in free throws (204).

 

Quarry earns his first all-conference honor after ranking second on the team in points (12.8) and third in rebounds (4.6). He also leads the team in blocks (19). Quarry leads the league in free throw percentage (.886), ranks third in three-pointers (47) and is ninth in scoring. He put up double digits 20 times this season, including a career-best 34 at McDaniel.

 

O'Neil is averaging a career-best 84 points and 4.7 rebounds this season and ranks second on the team in rebounds and is fourth in scoring. He is also third with a career-high 36 assists. O'Neil is shooting 47.2 percent from the field, 30.1 percent from downtown and 83.3 percent from the charity stripe. He has now played in 103 games, tied for the 13th most in program history.

 

Sixth-ranked Hopkins returns to action on Friday, March 6 as the Blue Jays take on Penn State Harrisburg in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Tip-off is slated for 6:00 pm at Goldfarb Gym.
