Men's Basketball Tournament Field Set

Men's Basketball Tournament Field Set

The Centennial Conference men's basketball championship field is now set, with Johns Hopkins capturing the top seed for the second straight year following Saturday's frenzied final day of the regular season.

The Blue Jays (22-3, 16-2 CC) needed a victory on Saturday and some help with a Swarthmore loss to have a chance for the top seed, and received both. JHU defeated Ursinus 85-76, while Swarthmore fell at Gettysburg 78-65, leaving the Blue Jays and Garnet with identical 16-2 conference records. Having split their regular season matchups, the determining tiebreaker came down to Gettysburg and Muhlenberg's place in the standings. Gettysburg earned the tiebreaker over Muhlenberg for third place, which secured the No. 1 seed for JHU.

The Centennial tournament will feature a new look this fall. For the first time ever, six teams will compete in the postseason as the conference has expanded its number of playoff participants from five to six. Also, the higher seed will host each round of the tournament and there is now a day off between the semifinals and championship.

Gettysburg's upset of Swarthmore, coupled with Franklin & Marshall grabbing the sixth and final playoff spot, gave the Bullets (15-10, 12-6 CC) the No. 3 seed over Muhlenberg (17-8, 12-6 CC). The Mules closed out the regular season with an 86-70 triumph over Washington College. Gettysburg will host F&M (12-13, 7-11) in Tuesday's quarterfinals, while Muhlenberg will host fifth-seeded Ursinus (15-10, 10-8 CC).

F&M claimed the final playoff spot with a dramatic 58-56 win at McDaniel. The Diplomats are back in the CC postseason for the first time since 2019.
