Smith, Davis Highlight Centennial All-America Selections

PERRY, N.Y. – Fresh off another banner season, the Gettysburg College men's team was well-represented on the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) Division III All-America Team.

Six Bullets made the cut, including the entire first midfield. Senior midfielder Jameson Smith (Glen Ridge, N.J./Glen Ridge) and senior defenseman Geoff Davis (Jefferson, Md./McDonogh School) were first-team honorees while junior long-stick midfielder Chris Palladino (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) captured second-team recognition. In addition, senior midfielder Mike Distler (Lutherville, Md./Loyola Blakefield), senior midfielder Paul Werner (Westfield, N.J./Seton Hall Prep), and senior defenseman Bill McAvoy (Villanova, Pa./Episcopal Academy) garnered honorable mention.

Davis, Smith, and Palladino are all repeat All-Americans.

Gettysburg's six selections are the most in program history since the 2009 squad also received six national honors. They helped the Bullets capture their second-straight Centennial Conference title and reach the NCAA Division III semifinals for the second year in a row. The Bullets assembled a 17-3 record, tying for the second-most victories in program history, and finished with a No. 5 national ranking.

An honorable mention All-American last season, Smith led the Gettysburg offense this season, scoring a team- and Centennial Conference-leading 39 goals. He also handed out 19 assists and led the team with 58 points. The Centennial Conference Offensive Player of the Year, he posted four hat tricks and scored a career-high six goals in the Bullets' Centennial Conference semifinal win over Swarthmore. He also netted four goals and three assists in the team's season-opening win over Messiah College, and he registered three goals and three assists during the team's regular-season victory over Swarthmore. Smith also contributed with six goals in the team's four NCAA tournament games, bouncing back from a knee injury in the Centennial Conference final. For his career, Smith finished ninth all-time at Gettysburg in goals (128) and 12th in points (184).

Davis, who was also a Second Team All-American last season, is the first Gettysburg defenseman to earn First-Team All-America honors since Tim Kurpis '10 in 2010. He helped lead a stellar defensive unit that finished sixth in Division III and fifth in school history in goals allowed per game (6.30), held its opponents to a single-digit goal total in 17 of 20 games, and limited nine opponents to under six goals. Also a First Team All-Centennial Conference selection, Davis finished the season ranked second on the team in both ground balls (49) and caused turnovers (32). He registered career-highs of eight ground balls and four caused turnovers in a victory over Washington College, and he also tallied seven grounders and two caused turnovers in the team's 9-2 victory over Ursinus College in the Centennial Conference championship game. He also enjoyed a strong NCAA tournament, when he racked up 12 ground balls and six caused turnovers.

Palladino was also a major factor for the Bullets defensively, leading the team in ground balls (82) and caused turnovers (40). Also a First Team All-Centennial Conference selection, he tied for the conference lead in ground balls and was second in caused turnovers. An honorable mention All-American last season, he posted one of his top performances in a 7-6 overtime victory at York (Pa.) College in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division III tournament, posting four ground balls and four caused turnovers. For the entire tournament, he notched 11 ground balls and nine caused turnovers. Palladino also recorded career-bests of seven ground balls and five caused turnovers versus Messiah and followed up with five more caused turnovers in the next game versus Salisbury University. In addition, he picked up six ground balls in regular-season victories over Lynchburg and Ursinus.

Distler registered an outstanding season in his first year as a starter for the Bullets. An All-Centennial Conference second-team pick, he finished third on the team with 52 points on 28 goals and a team-leading 24 assists. Two of his top performances came in the NCAA tournament, including a three-goal, three-assist showing that included a highlight-reel behind-the-back goal in an 11-10 victory over Cabrini College in the second round. He also scored the game-winning goal versus York in the quarterfinals and finished the game with two goals and two assists. In addition, Distler scored a career-high seven points on three goals and four assists versus Muhlenberg College, registered three goals and two assists versus Eastern University, and had two goals and three assists at Haverford College.

Werner also helped carry the Gettysburg offense, finishing second on the team in goals (34), assists (21), and points (52). A First Team All-Centennial Conference selection, he posted a memorable performance in the team's NCAA tournament victory over Cabrini, tying career-highs for goals (four) and points (five) while scoring the game-winning goal in overtime, which was also his 100th career point. He also scored five points on three goals and two assists at Lynchburg College, and he netted three goals versus Haverford and Ursinus.

Another key cog in the Gettysburg defense, McAvoy finished third on the team in caused turnovers (21) and fourth in ground balls (34). A Second Team All-Centennial Conference selection, he registered career-highs of eight ground balls and four caused turnovers versus Washington College, and he also tallied seven ground balls and two caused turnovers in the team's Centennial Conference championship game win over Ursinus. In addition, he posted two ground balls and tied a career-high with three caused turnovers in the NCAA semifinals at Salisbury.

CARLISLE, Pa.– Dickinson senior Chris Menard (South Hadley, Mass./South Hadley) was named to the 2016 USILA/Nike All-America Team, announced on championship weekend. Menard received honorable mention in the midfield, capping an outstanding career with a great senior season.

Menard was a three-time All-Centennial Conference selection, earning First-team honors this year and in 2014, and Second-team recognition in 2015. He went over the century mark in points and finished his career tied for eighth in program history in both points and goals with 132 and 88, adding 44 assists.

He was a valuable asset on the Red Devil face-off and defensive units, controlling 135 ground balls and causing 24 turnovers. Menard tallied a career-best 45 points and 32 goals this season, ranking fourth in the conference in goals and sixth in points. He ranked eighth in the CC with 54 ground balls on the year.

Menard becomes the 37th All-American in program history and the 22nd Red Devil honored since 2006. He was the 17th Dickinson player to be selected for the USILA North/South Senior All-Star Game.

LANCASTER, Pa. — Sean Rogers was named to the 2016 United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) Division III All-America Third Team. The honor marks the 43rd time and fifth consecutive year a member of the F&M lacrosse team received All-America recognition.

The award is the first All-America honor for Rogers and the second postseason award for the sophomore attack after being named to the All-Centennial Conference (CC) First Team. He joins his father, John Rogers '89, on the program's exclusive list of All-Americans. John garnered the honor twice during his time at F&M, picking up the award in 1988 and 1989

Rogers (Leesburg, Va./Loudoun County) led the CC in points (70) and goals (35) while ranking second in assists (35). His 70 points on the season were the most by a Diplomat since 1995 as he tallied multiple points in 15 out of 17 contests. On three occasions he recorded a season-high eight points and picked up 32 ground balls to go along with nine caused turnovers on the year. The sophomore picked up 109 points during his first two seasons in Lancaster, making him one of the fastest to reach the 100-point plateau.

HAVERFORD, Pa. – Eric Caliendo '16 has been named to the 2016 USILA/Nike All-America Team as an honorable mention selection. Caliendo's All-America status marks the 21st time in the history of the Haverford College men's lacrosse team a player has garnered All-America status. The program's first All-American since 2013, Caliendo is the third goalie is program history to achieve this honor as he joins two-time All-American Joe Banno '12 and K.C. Peterson '07.

A four-year starter for the Fords, Caliendo capped his career with his finest showing as the Fords' last line of defense. The team captain set career bests for wins (7), save percentage (58.8%), and goals against average (7.01). Playing all but a few minutes in goal with the team holding sizable leads late in the fourth quarter, the Fords allowed just 6.93 goals per game – the fourth-best mark in program history.

Caliendo's 7.01 GAA is the third best average in program history behind Pete Bowers '74 (6.75 GAA in 1971) and Peterson (6.79 in 2007). His seven wins this year rank just outside of the program's single season top 10. Caliendo also ranked third on the team in ground balls (51) and fifth in caused turnovers this season (14). He made at least 10 saves in eight of the Fords' games this season.

His remarkable career finishes with Caliendo being ranked fourth in program history with a career GAA of 9.18. His 10.95 saves per game are also the fourth best mark in school history while his 613 career saves rank fifth all-time.

In addition to his latest honor, Caliendo was named the 2016 Centennial Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Year for men's lacrosse and was named the conference's male sportsmanship recipient of the year. A second-team All-CC selection in 2016, Caliendo was named an honorable mention to that same team as a junior. He was named to the Centennial Conference Academic Honor Roll in each of his three eligible seasons and was a Haverford College Ambler Scholar-Athlete this spring.

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. - Three members of the Ursinus College men's lacrosse team were awarded All-American status by the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA), capping a season of continued excellence for the program.

Senior goalkeeper Brian Neff was named to the second team, while sophomore midfielder Gerard Brown and junior defenseman Zach Jones earned honorable mention recognition. All three players were first team All-Centennial Conference choices.

The Bears have 13 All-American selections since the program played its first game in 2001, and seven of them have come in the past two years, during which Ursinus has gone 28-7 and reached the CC title game twice.

Neff, an honorable mention selection in 2014 and a third team honoree last season, is the first three-time All-American in program history. This year's CC Defensive Player of the Year, the senior captain became the first Bear to earn three first team all-conference nods after finishing his final season ranked 16th in Division III in goals-against average (7.25).

Neff is sixth in CC history with 709 career saves and ranks third with 45 victories. He is Ursinus' all-time leader in saves, goals-against average (7.34), and save percentage (.604) and ranks sixth all-time with 155 ground balls. Also a standout student, Neff was one of only five players named Academic All-Centennial, which recognizes juniors and seniors on the all-conference roster with a cumulative GPA of at least 3.40.

Jones was an integral part of a stingy unit that ranked 24th in the nation in scoring defense (7.35). He started all 19 games in which he appeared, registering 19 ground balls and nine caused turnovers.

Brown was one of the nation's breakout stars in 2016, racking up a school-record 37 assists in addition to 15 goals. The sophomore's 52 points were one shy of the program standard set by Dane Mangin in 2006, and Brown joins Neff as the only Ursinus sophomores to earn All-American honors. Brown has 54 career assists already, the third-most in CC history for a player in his first two seasons.

Brown, who was 26th in Division III in assists per game (2.18), had six games with at least three helpers this season, including a five-assist outburst in the season opener against Albright. He is already fifth in school history in assists and well on pace to break the all-time mark of 101 held by Anthony Tori. Brown added 19 ground balls and a caused turnover to his ledger.
