COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Ursinus Athletic Director Erin Stroble announced the promotion of Corey Shaffer to Head Men's Lacrosse Coach, effective immediately.

Shaffer has served as the Interim Head Coach of the team after Gary Mercadante's departure in August after being previously promoted to associate head coach in 2021. He initially joined the Ursinus staff in the fall of 2018 and has primarily served as the team's defensive coordinator.

"Coach Shaffer demonstrates all the best qualities of a Team Ursinus coach," Stroble said. He is an educator first who cares deeply about his student-athletes and their successes on and off the field. Our program is in great hands, and he is the right person to lead our men's lacrosse team."

Shaffer's coaching has made an immediate impact as the team has been ranked in the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) during the entire season so far. The Bears are 6-3 on the season and 1-1 in Centennial Conference play. Shaffer earned his first career win in the Bears 14-11 season-opening win over Stevenson, who was ranked 13th in the poll at the time.

"I am honored and grateful to be officially named the Head Coach for Ursinus Men's Lacrosse," Shaffer said. "First, I would like to thank Erin Stroble and Laura Moliken for showing a great deal of confidence in me to take on the interim role this year. I am forever grateful to all the players and staff, past and present, who have also helped me get to this point. We look forward to building on our past success and pushing our men to be the best they can be. I could not be more thrilled to be a part of Team Ursinus and the campus community."

The Bears return to action on Saturday, April 8th as they will host Haverford to continue Centennial Conference play at 12:00 p.m.
