Haverford, Swarthmore Advance to NCAA Second Round

The Swarthmore College men's soccer team (15-2-2) opened its NCAA Championship Tournament campaign with a dominating 3-0 first-round victory over Albertus Magnus at home on Saturday evening. With the win, the Garnet advances to Sunday's second-round contest from Clothier Field Stadium against the winner of the Christopher Newport-RPI first-round contest. The Garnet was fueled by a three-goal outburst over a 20-minute span to open the second half. Senior captain Jack Momeyer, sophomore Koby Levin and sophomore Michael Stewart all scored for Swarthmore, which advances to the NCAA second round for the first time since 2010. In goal for the Garnet, junior Peter Maxted made two saves to pick up the shut out.

Haverford 2, Wesleyan 2 (OT) - Fords advance in PKs, 4-2
The Haverford College men's soccer team advanced to the second round of the NCAA Division III men's soccer championship by topping Wesleyan (Conn.) University 4-2 on penalty kicks after playing the Cardinals to a 2-2 tie through regulation and a pair of overtime periods Saturday night at Arcadia University. The Fords (12-7-1) and Cardinals (9-4-4) combined for nine shots on goal through 110 minutes of a physical, entertaining battle. Forced to settle the outcome of the contest through penalty kicks, Haverford benefited from stellar play from junior goalie Andriy Mshanetskyy, who made two tremendous saves during the shootout to propel the Fords to a second-round match-up against fifth-ranked Stevens Institute of Technology (17-2-2) at 5 p.m. on Sunday night at Arcadia.
