Ursinus Stuns #11 Dickinson

Ursinus Stuns #11 Dickinson

In a defensive match, Ursinus scored one goal in the 14th minute as the Bears (4-4, 1-0 Centennial) upset ninth-ranked Dickinson (5-2, 0-1 Centennial) 1-0 in men's soccer play at Patterson Field on Saturday afternoon.

Freshman forward Ryan Molyneaux (Harleysville, Pa. / Souderton Area) scored on a pass from sophomore midfielder Charles Brodsky (Bryn Mawr, Pa. / Friends Central School) at 13:29 for the lone goal of the game. On a breakaway, Brodsky passed the ball across the mouth of the goal right to Molyneaux on the left side.

From there, the defensive unit did its job, holding Dickinson to just six shots.

Junior goalkeeper Ryan Murphy (Sewell, N.J./Paul VI) made three saves as Ursinus won its second straight Centennial Conference opener. This also marked the second time Ursinus defeated a ranked opponent at Patterson Field. It was the Bears' first win against the Red Devils since 2002.

Elsewhere, Franklin & Marshall and Swarthmore remained unbeaten with 1-0 victories over Washington College and Johns Hopkins, respectively. Gettysburg won in Allentown for the first time in 11 years with a 1-0 victory against Muhlenberg. And the two of the top goal scorers in the Conference - McDaniel's Shane McCracken and Haverford's Ford Bohrmann - each tallied goals but it was the Fords that came away with a 2-1 win.
