Tim Treinen, Johns Hopkins, Defensive Player of the Year

Tim Treinen, Johns Hopkins, Defensive Player of the Year

LANCASTER, Pa. -- Muhlenberg's Chris Richards and Johns Hopkins' Tim Treinen earned Player of the Year awards while Gettysburg's Athi Msiza and the Franklin & Marshall coaching staff also received major honors on the 2022 All-Centennial Men's Soccer Team.

Richards, a senior midfielder for the CC-champion Mules, was named Offensive Player of the Year. Richards is the first Mule to earn player of the year honors since Lance Dotzman in 2013 and the fourth overall. Richards was a first-team pick for the second time in his career and earned All-CC honors for the third time.

Treinen, a graduate student defender for the Blue Jays, was selected as Defensive Player of the Year. Treinen becomes the seventh JHU player to collect player of the year accolades and first since Samy Ramadane in 2016. Treinen earned All-Centennial honors for the third time in his career and is now a back-to-back first-team selection.

Msiza nabbed Rookie of the Year honors following a superb freshman campaign for the Bullets. Also a second-team All-CC pick, Msiza is the second Bullet to be named the conference's top newcomer in the 10-year history of the award, joining Oladayo Thomas (2018) in that category,

Franklin & Marshall's coaching staff was selected by its peers as Coaching Staff of the Year. Head coach Dan Wagner and assistants Donnie Spangler, Gio Van Heesewijk and Mark Wagner led the Diplomats to a 12-1-4 regular season record, a 7-0-2 mark in conference play and the top seed in the CC tournament. Previously, this award was Coach of the Year, which Wagner also won in 2019.

Four teams placed six player apiece on the All-CC squad - F&M, Gettysburg, Johns Hopkins and Washington College. Dickinson earned four spots on the team, McDaniel and Muhlenberg had three each, and Haverford and Swarthmore each landed two players on the all-star team.

Fourteen players were repeat all-conference honorees, led by Richards, Treinen and F&M's Shay Adamson, who were each three-time selections. Players were secured the second All-CC awards of their careers included Washington College's Eric Gwadz, Harrison Malone and Alex Coster, F&M's Connor Anderko and Sam Farrell, JHU's Axel Whamond and Ian Whamond, Gettysburg's Jack Carroll and Nur Adhikarie, Haverford's Paul-Andre Coulibaly, and Swarthmore's Sean Nolan.

Johns Hopkins has the most first-team selections (73) in the 30-year history of the Conference, followed by Gettysburg (55), Franklin & Marshall (47) and Muhlenberg (46). Dickinson (32) is next followed by Haverford (30), Swarthmore (16), McDaniel (12), Washington College (9) and Ursinus (5).
