SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Sue Davis, a head coach of Swarthmore College swimming for more than 40 years, has announced her retirement.

Davis arrived at Swarthmore College in 1974 as the head women's swimming coach and immediately took the program to a new level. She later took over the reins of the Swarthmore men's swimming team in 1983.

In total, Davis coached 725 dual meets during her 41-year tenure and registered an overall record of 422-303. Under her guidance, the men's and women's programs produced 101 national qualifiers and 48 All-Americans. Furthermore, Davis coached four Centennial Conference Most Outstanding Performers and one student-athlete who was named a Capital One Academic All-American. The women's program won Centennial Conference championships in 2001 and 2002, while the men's team captured the 1989 Middle Atlantic Conference title.

Davis served in a variety of other roles at Swarthmore, which included head volleyball coach from 1978 to 1983 and Senior Woman Administrator from 1992 to 2002. In addition to her duties at the institution, Davis was also a member of the NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Rules Committee from 2000 to 2004 and has also been a director of two national level clinics for coaches and swimmers since 1980.

A national search for Davis' successor will begin immediately.
