Gettysburg Grabs Leads Heading into Championship Sunday

GETTYSBURG, Pa. -- Gettysburg's men's and women's swimming teams took over narrow leads of first place in the team standings following day three of the 2020 Centennial Conference Swimming Championships on Saturday at Bullets Pool. 

The Gettysburg women secured three golds, three silvers and four bronze medals in the six events, while the Bullet men notched two golds, two silvers and one bronze on Saturday. The chase for the team title remains tight at the top for both genders, with the Franklin & Marshall and Swarthmore men Swarthmore women still in the mix entering Sunday's final events. 

Swarthmore's Alec Menzer and F&M's Tom Graminski headlined the evening, as both set new conference and championship meet records in their respective events. Menzer outlasted F&M's Chris Schiavone in the men's 200 freestyle with a time of 1:38.82, while Graminski swam to a mark of 55.63 in the men's 100 breaststroke. Menzer has now broken a pair of individual championship records throughout the conference meet.  

Swarthmore's Annabella Boardman set a new pool record in the women's 100 breaststroke at 1:04.80. 

Other women's golds went to Gettysburg's Megan Wojnar in the 400 IM (4:32.73) and Hannah Wasson in the 100 backstroke (57.19), with the Bullets' 200 freestyle relay of Katie Cooper, Cate Kosko, Regan Tait and Kate Crilly touching first in 1:35.15. Swarthmore took the other two first-place finishes, with Anna Lyn winning the 200 freestyle (1:53.33) and Liz Gallagher claiming the 100 butterfly (56.84). 

In addition to Menzer and Graminski, men's champions included Gettysburg's Jack Edelson in the 100 butterfly (50.14) and Nick Cox in the 100 backstroke (50.56) along with Dickinson's Will Freeman in the 400 IM (4:03.15). The F&M 200 free relay of Brendan Cline, Schiavone, Matthew Hopkins and Alex Sang opened the meet with a first-place mark of 1:21.47.
