GETTYSBURG, Pa.— Swarthmore secured its second straight and fourth overall Centennial Conference men's swimming championship on Sunday at Gettysburg. The Garnet totaled 868.5 points to defeated second-place Gettysburg by 93 points.
The Bullets claimed second with 775.5 points, followed by Franklin & Marshall (521), Ursinus (449.5), Washington College (330.5), Dickinson (211) and McDaniel (130).
Swarthmore led the way with 10 gold medals, including three from Andrew Karpenko, who repeated as the meet's Most Outstanding Performer. Karpenko is the first Garnet swimmer to win multiple MOP awards and the seventh men's swimmer in conference history to accomplish the feat. He contributed 60 individual points to Swarthmore's team total throughout the championship, repeating as champion in all three of his events (200 IM), 100 breaststroke, 200 breaststroke). Karpenko broke hiis own conference and championship record in the 200 breaststroke and set a new pool record in the 200 IM.
Swarthmore's Ben Freeman (500 freestyle, 200 freestyle) and Gettysburg's Nick Cox (100 backstroke, 200 backstroke) were also multiple-event winners at the championship.
