TAMPA, Fla. -- The Washington College men's tennis team improved to 3-0 on the season with a 9-0 sweep of the University of Northwestern (Minn.) this afternoon in Tampa, Fla. The Eagles dropped to 3-6 with the loss.

The most competitive match of the day came at No. 1 doubles where seniors Dan Boaté (West Chester, Pa./Reed Henderson) and Vishnu Rajes (Yercaud, India/St. John's) beat Brett Jacobus and CJ Lloyd, 8-4. Senior Ryan Holtschneider (Kingsville, Md./Perry Hall) and sophomore Jeremy Novick (Cape May Court House, N.J./Middle Township) defeated Trevor Grasto and Joshua Kimball, 8-2, at No. 2, while freshman Justin Panepinto (Cary, N.C./Middle Creek) and sophomore Matt Katz (Centreville, Md./Gunston School) beat Nathan Elias and Caleb Ruuesink, 8-1, at No. 3.

In singles play, Rajes beat Lloyd, 6-2, 6-0, at No. 1, Boaté bested Jacobus, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 2, Holtschneider topped Trevor Grasto, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 3, and Novick got the better of Kimball, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 4. Panepinto blanked Cole Grasto, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 5, while freshman Luke Weaver (Chestertown, Md./Kent County) picked up his first collegiate singles win with a 6-1, 6-0, victory against Tanner Magruder at No. 6.

The Shoremen are back in action Monday with a 3:00 p.m. home match against Texas-Dallas.
