LANCASTER, Pa. -- Johns Hopkins' Thomas Yu and Haverford's Andreas Wingert and Eric Spangler took home top honors to lead the 2022 All-Centennial Men's Tennis Team.
Yu was tabbed as Player of the Year after receiving Rookie of the Year accolades last spring. Playing at No. 1 singles and doubles for the Blue Jays, Yu posted a 4-1 singles and 5-1 doubles mark in conference play. Yu is the sixth JHU player to receive the conference's top honor and it marks the eighth time a Blue Jay has claimed the award.
Wingert, Haverford's No. 2 singles player, went 6-0 in conference play while also adding one doubles win. Also a first team All-Centennial singles selection, Wingert is the fourth Ford to receive the top newcomer award since its inception in 2013.
Spangler was chosen by his peers as Coach of the Year in his first year at the helm of the Haverford program. The Fords posted a 13-6 overall record and 7-1 CC mark this spring, including the first conference defeat of Johns Hopkins in six years, which snapped the Blue Jays 41-match CC winning streak.
Yu was one of four repeat All-CC selections, and one of two who repeated on both the singles and doubles teams. F&M's Adrian Charchalis repeated as a first team singles honoree and earned second team doubles this spring after landing on the first team in 2021. Other repeat honorees included F&M's Justin Pace and Ursinus' Lars Jespersen.
Swarthmore led the way with 10 players on the All-CC team, followed by F&M (3), Haverford (3), Hopkins (3), Washington College (2), Dickinson (1), Gettysburg (1) and Ursinus (1).
