Vishnu Joshi, Johns Hopkins, Player of the Year

LANCASTER, Pa. -- Johns Hopkins' Vishnu Joshi and Thomas Yu swept the top awards to lead a conference-leading group of 10 players named to the 2021 All-Centennial Men's Tennis Team.

Joshi was named Player of the Year, Yu collected Rookie of the Year and Franklin & Marshall head coach Josh Schofield was chosen by his peers at Coach of the Year.

Joshi, JHU's No. 1 singles player, was the unanimous choice as Player of the Year, marking the seventh time a Blue Jay has secured the conference's top honor. The senior posted a perfect 7-0 record vs. CC opponents at the No. 1 position, dropping only 16 games and winning all of his sets in his seven singles matches. In doubles, Joshi went 8-0 primarily playing with Daniel Ardila at the No. 2 and No. 3 spots in the lineup.

Yu opened his career with a stellar freshman campaign for the Blue Jays. He went 5-0 in singles, playing four matches at No. 2 and one and No. 1, dropping just nine games in his five singles matches. He also teamed with twin brother James Yu for a 5-1 mark at No. 1 doubles, including a 5-0 mark in CC competition. Yu is the second Hopkins player to win Rookie of the Year accolades, joining Mike Buxbaum (2014).

Schofield earned Coach of the Year honors for the first time after guiding the Diplomats to a 6-1 record, with their only loss coming to CC-champion Hopkins in the opening match of the season.

Hopkins landed 10 player on the All-CC team after an impressive campaign in which they dropped just one point to conference opponents, sweeping six of seven CC matches. Joshi and Thomas Yu represented the Blue Jays on first team singles, while James YuAndrew Tran, Eric Yoo, and Brian Wang made up two-thirds of the second team singles. Robby Simon rounded out the singles honorees for the Blue Jays on the honorable mention singles team.

In doubles, JHU nabbed three of the six spots on the first and second teams. The Yu brothers earned first team honors while Vishnu and Ardila and Arjun Asokumar and Rohan Reddy collected second team awards.

F&M had four players earn All-CC recognition, including a conference-leading three on first team singles. Sam Bellersen, Justin Pace and Adrian Charhalis each landed on the singles first team, with Bellersen and Charhalis also being named to the double first team. Tristan Steffe was named to the All-CC singles second team for the Diplomats and also partnered with Pace for second team doubles honors.

Washington College No. 1 singles player Landon Strober represented the Shoremen on the all-conference squad, earning first team singles honors.

The Ursinus No. 1 doubles tandem of Mason Groff and Matt Fontanese secured first team honors, with Lars Jespersen landing on the honorable mention singles team for the Bears.

Alex Kagan and Michael Zayneh received All-CC nods for Gettysburg, with Kagan earning second team singles accolades and both Kagan and Zayneh securing honorable mention doubles for the Bullets.
