Hopkins Makes it Eight Straight

LANCASTER, Pa. -- Johns Hopkins captured seven first-place finshes en route to its eighth consecutive Centennial Conference Men's Indoor Track & Field championship on Sunday at Franklin & Marshall. The Blue Jays compiled 212.5 points throughout the two-day event. 

Ursinus placed second in the team standings with 139 points, giving the Bears their best finish at the indoor meet since 2011. Dickinson took third with 97 points, with Muhlenberg (76) and Haverford (73.5) rounding out the top five. 

Justin Canedy was a force to be wreckoned with at the championship, compiling four of the Blue Jays' seven golds. The standout sophomore won the 60 meters (6.98) for the second year in a row and also grabbed gold in the 60 hurdles (8.45), high jump (2.02m) and long jump (7.05m). Other JHU golds went to Declan Hines in the 3,000 (8:33.19), Jared Pangallozzi in the 5,000 (14:50.33) and Liam Posten in the heptathlon (4,352). 

Ursinus nabbed four golds, with strong performances in the throws and sprint relays. Griffin McMann won both the shot put (15.13m) and weight throw (14.06m). In the relays, the 4x200 team of Octavious Carter, Aviv Hogan Appell, Bradley Duncan-Taylor and Tyler Reilly (1:31.74) and the 4x400 squad of Reilly, Dylan Simms, Payton Stanziani, and Andre Kelly (3:25.74) finished first for the Bears. 

Dickinson's Cole Boback was also a multiple-event champion, taking first in the 200-meter dash (22.79) and 400-meter dash (50.82). 

Haverford grabbed gold in a trio of events. Ethan Gadra won the pole vault (4.47m), Jamie Moreland crossed first in the mile (4:20.21), and the distance medley relay of Moreland, Sam Ditkovsky, Hiro Kawakatsu and Matt Katz took gold at 10:20.25. 

Muhlenberg had a pair of individual champions, as Sam Morgan won the 800 in 1:56.06 and Cameron Ford won the triple jump at 13.64 meters. 

The Swarthmore 4x800 relay of Kevin Hudson, Chris Brandt, Aidan Cantine and Aiden Tomov secured the lone gold of the meet for the Garnet with a time of 8:03.14.
